I got it a couple years ago thanks to ebay and it is absolutely 100% an NOS item built originally for a Tri-Z 250.

thats cool, i never thought of doing it like that, i have a linkage exactly like that but longer, and i just replace the shock with it, it rides rough, but its just for circle track, and it goes extremely low, the frame rails are about 2 inches from the ground
The length I went on this strut will not work with a stock swingarm. the shock spring will hit the swingarm. When I got my Z, it had a lowering strut made of torch cut steel plate with a couple holes drilled in it. It was a horrible looking thing. It was only lowered 1.5" to prevent the rear shock spring/swingarm interference. When I switched to the west coast swingarm, I was able to lower another 1/2 inch since there is allot more room for the shock spring. It makes allot of difference in seat height. I could have made it to go lower, but the linkage starts hanging down pretty far under the swingarm. Any lower and I would want to use a shorter shock. I didn't do it for the pic, but I usually lower the forks another 2" in the clamps when the linkage is lowered. When it's in the stock height position and sticking up like that, it might interfer with a stock Z gas tank under full compression. It's designed so it can be adjusted the other way so that it the extra length hangs down between the lower linkage arm and it does not protrude any lower. It's a little more indepth to raise and lower that way. have another earlier one i built that has 3 adjustments, but it didn't work right because I didn't make the bushings thick enough. It looks bettter than this one and it has engraving to match the chain guide bracket.
So you just removed your shock and put a strut in place of it to do the same thing a shortened shock would. basically made a hard tail out of her. Can you get a pic of it all lowered out?
