just wondering if anyone could help me out or give m any info on what parts are interchangeable from the air cooled '84 250r to the liquid 85 250r. can you put the newer forks on the older 250r ? or any other parts that would be nice to upgrade. let me know. thanks.

Forks are a great and easy upgrade as for the swinger forget about it 3rd gen won't work....ebay has had some ext swingers....But do the forks if you can you'll like the result

I agree. My 84 R came with forks and tripples off an 85, and they are a world ahead of the old 84 forks. The headlight and guard from the 84 is still mounted, but some tabs had to be made for the lower bracket to mount on the lower tripple. The forks are way thicker, and a little longer than the 84 forks, but feel a LOT better.

So u have to use the triples from an '85 when u change the forks? So the forks r bigger and u need the triples? Do they bolt right up to the steering stem? Or r there any mods required?

your steering stop(on the ft of the tube) has to go and you'll have to tack on a new one(rear of tube) but it is almost a bolt on. Yes you'll have to use the 85 trips but it has to be the easiest upgrade you can do for a 2nd gen R. It's so simple a 10yo can do it
