Hello,
Doing an engine rebuild & would like to switch from 5 speed to 6 speed. What xr200 gearbox isa the right one to use? Does it drop right in? Any issues with reliability? Any other modifications need to be made.

Thanks in advance.

those motor will give rear kick, if you want front you just swap the kicker stuff out in the motors

Thanks Old School, got your pm too. I have a bottom end to use for the re-build...its the original one to the trike. Really just looking for the gearbox. Also, need forward kickstart & rear brake mount. So, 81-83 XR200r or 84-85 XL200r is the ticket. Off to Ebay!

I started to do the swap with a parts xr200 engine from the junkyard but I need new shift forks before I can finish it. Its really quite simple. I used the the xr200 input and output shafts with all the gears, the shift cam and star, shifting forks and pins, and the xr kicker gear. If you use the 200x or the xr bottom end, you still have to modify the kick start shaft. What I did was use the xr parts in the x bottom end. For this you must replace the gear on the x shaft with the one on the xr shaft. The only down fall of using the xr tranny is that the gears are not as beefy but I havent heard of anybody shreading their tranny after the swap. Good luck with the swap!!
