hey guys, i have a chance to grab a xr500r dirtbike up cheap. i was just wondering if anyone has attempted to get one of these engines in a 350x frame. mine is just about done beeing gusseted and i havent started building my motor yet. the motors look close in size but ive only seen them at seperate times so they may be way off. im assuming they arent even close or this would be a popular modification. but just curiouse just in case it is possible and i can really be laying down some power

I dont think dirt bike motors have a counter balance like an ATV motor does. This will make it vibrate more then most like and will destroy your stock frame. If you went with a new chromoly frame then it will hold up to whatever you throw at it.

I would much rather build up a 350x motor that will run circles around a mild xr500 motor and have it fit and not vibrate.

alright thanks man, i figued one of you guys would chime in. ill just continue my plans to build the 350 engine then. i was just thinkin if it would bolt in then it would be a good way to keep the mods down and keep reliability up while at the same time getting the power i wanted. but i forgot all about counter balancing and all that fun stuffl lol.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with the counter balance issue personally. No Tecate ever was made with a counter balance, and their frames are just fine.

http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad7/leviblue/008.jpg It's under resto as of yesterday and today the motor went to the shop for a full rebuild...I'm gonna go over the frame and add some welds and clean it up and send it out to get PCed...Clean and repaint everything...new seat cover....keeping the plastics the way they are(vintage race cut)...and run it this winter up on the ice in NY.....So yes it can be done with some mods

I LOVE IT!!! I hate how some think the only 500 motor should be from a CR...It's the only 4stroke I'll ride, excpt for Bill's TPC.... Dalton if you think you have the skills then go for it....Your not that far from me so if you do a ride with us this summer you'll be able to see it and ride it.....Oh yeh Doug he's a little thin but at the time he was 16 and a year and a half later he's still kickin' So he doesn't look too bad for 17 1/2..look at avatar thats him on sunday

ON THE MONEY...I remember when the old man built it and ran it...the last time I had it running was in 2000 when I got it from my stepmother. I put it in a barrn and forgot about it untill last year...When it gets rolling it's fast and fun

Dalton what year is the XR500 from, they were made from 79-84. im not sure if the RFVC motors will fit, 83-84 as easy as the 1st design

ill go check the bike out again tonight im not sure of the year or anythign along those lines. i just know it a good strong running bike that he never rides. and if the frame does need modifying for it to fit correctly now is the time to find out because the shop my frame is sitting in has almost every kind of metal cutting, welding, and shaping tool ive ever seen lol
