built this over the winter and figured you guys might wanna see this and too no for a fact this swap is possibly. motor is a from a 2003 crf230. carb and manifold from a xr200, 45 pilot and 120 main. bolted a 400ex battery box to the back of the airbox and used a 230 battery and everything seems to be fine so far. heres some pics...

How fast is it?

gonna put the gps on it soon and find out but probably 110-120, gearing is 13/34 with 6 gears.

Sick, what did it cost?

got the motor blown up for cheap, put about 600 into for parts, coeshow 66mm piston kit, all honda gaskits, timing chain and tensioner, vlave seals and 3 angle valve job, this winter im gonna get a coeshow cam and spring kit. mike coe makes the best performance parts for these little motors even a 251 big bore with close to 30whp!! you can check his site out at www.coeshow.com

You are the man! But we need more info. More build pictures. More technical data. At least tell us how fast it feels. I am pretty excited to know the 200x can really be improved like this in the motor dept.. And yes, roundabout cost, many people will be so interested. Great job.

ha to be honest i have never driven a stock 200x, all sport trikes are rare to come across in canada really so i built this, i driven lots of bikes tho and i no it can stay with a 400ex. its pretty quick. if u can get a motor for cheap go for it, motor bolts right in using stock mounts, some mods need to be done to the spacers in the back mount, just grinded down, the top mount will need to redrilled since the 230 has a longer stroke and the motor is about 6mm higher then the 200x. 400ex battery box is cheap on ebay. so are 230 harnesses, cdi boxes, regulators and solenoids,

awesome! been waiting to see some pics of one. It would be nice to have one of these in a 200x,can still get all honda parts(and they will deal with you because they think its a dirtbike),plus the aftermarket for them is there.

very cool

Nice job. When I read the title of the thread I thought it was gonna be a quadrunner 230 engine. I almost threw up in my mouth a little bit. *whew*

Nice job! It's about time somebody finally did this swap. Those 230s are very abundant down here in the desert. I've always wanted to build a first gen 200x with a crf 230 in it. That would be the perfect trike for my wife.

110-120? uh...your talking KM/hr, right? in MPH, Your reaching for the sky on that one. in KPH, thats about 60-70, which is definitely plausible.

if you make it past 70MPH, i would be shocked. they barely do 70 in mildly modded bike form. now you've got a lot of extra weight with the trike frame......it will surely be faster than a 200X, and with the E-start, its titties! i bet its a awesome ride, and it will be a solid motor (it isnt a high strung hand grenade). but it simply isnt going to go real fast top speed. sure, you could gear it up to theoretically go that fast, but the motor will never pull it.

Cool build BTW!

He's canadian. I'm pretty sure he's talking about KPH.

Very cool build. This is something that would be a great swap because of parts availability and such. Good job on this.

Sounds and looks good. Must be harder to find a reasonably priced 230CR motor than a 200x.

110 kph = 68mph
120 kph = 75mph....more or less....for you guys south of the border...

Glad to finally see some pics of your project...I like it! That engine looks real good in there ! I'm curious to see the results of your speed test with the GPS.

My xr200r tops out at like 55, them 230's were not that fast unless your changing gearing up. cool swap. i got a rear kick 6 speed XL200r bottom end on my 200x. i hate e-stard but looks like it turned out decent for you.

Great to finally see this swap. I knew it would only be a matter of time. Kinda crazy that an 03 engine bolts right into a 25 year old trike lol.

This is a pretty cool swap. As for power I'm not positive, but I read on a reputable forum that they make about 15 h.p., the older 200X was 17 h.p. aprox.
But you mix in that it is a new HONDA engine, parts are plentiful, has e-start, aftermaket and 2 h.p. becomes invisible. This looks like the perfect trail bike.
Congrats on this build. A great alternative for the 200X's out there for sure. Thanks for sharing. Now we need a video of her running and racing!!!

alot of these 200cc ish honda motors have kept the same design, its cheaper for them to mfg. i know my 02 XR200R motor was almost a 100% swap into the 200x frame but 1 bolt was off. my XL motor is a 100% bolt in

ha ya i was talking km/ guys ha, 110mph would be prety crazy, a stock 230 makes 18hp with the power up jets, its very lean from the factory. ill be letting you no what i get on the gps soon

i did happen to put the gps on it and i did get 110km/h out of it, ive been thinking about putting in a 200x tranny and foward kickstarter. greenhuman is working on this right now so i will see how that goes and what is al involved.

My 230L gets 80mph so I bet some of you guys are gonna be surprised with this thing!

That's awesome. Honda E-start won't let you down. Those AGM batteries are the best. And the old kicker gears sucked.

very cool build, i will keep this post in mind for a future build of my own.most of us down here know what your saying when you use kph terminology

Found this on youtube a while ago.
Looks like your project but in a 200s frame, and the trike doesnt seems a clean as yours.
I Don't think the guy is on 3ww.
