So i just bought my bike took it for the first time out riding, 2 hours in my 3rd gear locks up...still runs with the clutch in but tires are locked up. I can ride by skipping 3rd and going to 4th but it sucks..... Anyone have this problem or one like this. Do they make complete bottom end rebuild kits for our bikes?
What direction should i go? I went onto bikebandit.com and checked out the schemadics but i havent a clue what to look for...never tore apart a bottom end but im willing to learn.

Ok bud sounds like a shift fork broke i wouldnt run it too mutch before u fix it. Just use a shop manual and take your time u will b money! The swing arm bolt u halfto take your brake lever off then get a jack under it and jack it up a little to relieve some presure. On the side where your brake pedal is there are two flat spots on the bolt so you can get a wrench on it and spin it i would try spining it and hiting on the oposite side with a dead blow hammer a rubber mallet or a block of wood so u dont mess up the threads she should come then. I hope this helps! Need more help let me know.

There is not a new trans rebuild kit for the air cooled 250r's. One good thing about the air cooled motors though, is that you can use 81-84 top and bottom ends, as well as transmissions/gears - they are all the same, besides a difference in the shift shaft from the 81-82 will not interchange with the 83-84 from what I hear. It may be best to take it apart first, and see exactly what went wrong, then look for either the piece(s) you need, or buy a bottom end, and put your top end on it. The swingarm bolt is a known problem with this machine, it gets rusted on the inside. I got mine to turn, but when it still wouldnt come out, I ended up laying the frame on its side, with the rear axle and shock off, and having a partner hold a thick punch with a vise grips. The bigger hammer you can find the better. 6 pounds is not enough most times you need a real sledge hammer. I hit mine about 100 times with a really heavy sledge, before it finally budged. I also soaked it with penetrating oil weeks in advance. I hope yours isnt that bad, mine was sitting for many years outside. Good luck!
