Im tempted to get this but I worry a little about parts availability on the 86-87 models... seems like there is way more parts out there for 83-85.
The sixth gear would be sweet though!

Looks nice, he has an nice looking '85 for sale also.
In 1985 I was 16yrs old and my parents bought one for myself and brother (we had to share it). We rode the heck out of that thing. The next year they got us another one, an '86. Talk about fighting over the new one, it was faster, had a higher top speed, easier to kickstart and just plain looked better. IMO, if you allready have an 83-85, go for the 86-87. I dont know about parts, but this one here on ebay you sure dont need plastic.

Were the Swingarm and forks red out of the factory or did someone paint?

mkramm ..... How far is that from Detroit? I use to live in Belleville, Ypsi and had a house in Southgate. Hastings sounds familiar, but can't place it on the 'mitten' so to speak... :D :D :D

it is norht of battle creek. About 2.5-3.5 hours from detroit I would say. Looks like there is some nice trail riding around there, I am surprised that its in such good condition?

Makes you wonder if he's just doing some quick cleanup and paint to make them look just OK in the pic. Pics are all kinda fuzzy too, not very good quality. All of them have that ugly ass front wheel cover on them too.

Hmm i'm going to have to disagree that looks like fresh paint on the frame and swinger. My friend has an 87 200x if I ever get my damn camera working again i will take some pics they are silver like all the rest :D

I guess thats why if you go to the homepage and click the link for ads the Honda brochure shows the 87 200x with a red swingarm. + I have seen a couple original 87's and they were all red.

Go to the E-bay auction, click on sellers rating number, look at his last 2 auctions. You will find 2 more "clean" trikes.

just to add my $.02 on this. My brother had an 87 200X that he bought from the original owner in '91. It was all original down to the stock grips and tires. He had all of the service records, original dealer paperwork (Original price on it was $1800 if I remember correctly) . I had an 86 200x at the time so I can tell you exactly what the differences between the two machines are:
1 The 87 DOES have a red swingarm from the factory(86 has silver)
2 The most obvious difference is the 87 has different decals(with white tank scoops instead of red)
3. The engine skid plates are slightly different(but unterchangable)
4.87 has the keyed ignition
5.the 87 has a paper air filter element(2 piece filter) that is different from 86
6. seat doesn't have ATC or 200X on it (just says Honda on the back)
7. the 87 rear wheels have heavier beads on the outside when compared to 86
His machine was easily as clean as this one was at the time he sold it (and it went for a LOT more than $1000)
I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion. If I can talk my bro into signing up on this forum I'm sure he'll have some more input on this topic.
Thanks
Dave
P.S. Does anyone know if you can get Honda red frame paint from Honda (or anywhere else for that matter?)

The 87 had keyed ignition??? Did it still have the kick starter as a backup?
ATCMedic
09-10-2003, 01:17 PM
It wasn't an electric start ....it still had a kickstart, but if you didn't put the key in and turn it there wouldn't be any spark and you couldn't start it. I have seen people bypass this setup by cutting the harness and splicing wires on other Hondas, but it was a nice extra security measure to have. My 86 sure didn't have anything like that on it.

You forgot one thing. On the 87 it has 200x stickers along the gas tank :D
ATCMedic

That is what I meant when I said the 87 had different decals from the 86. The 87 has 200x on the tank and ATC on the fenders instead of the tank wings and 200x fender decals on the 86. I guess I should have stated that a little clearer.

Yeah... sounds pretty useless. Not like it would be hard to get around a key start on an atc.

Yeah they really aren't the best, it'll keep honest people off your trike but it hardly slows down thieves. ok ....now for the big question ..which one of you guys grabbed it? I was seriously thinking of hitting the buy it now today, but it was aleady gone! (I'm not surprised that was a low price for it IMO)

Wasn't me... I probably would have it I wouldn't have just bought the new exhaust for mine. My wife would have my nuts hanging from the ceiling if I bought it after all I could talk about was getting the chrome exhaust for mine!!! :-D
