Hi i have an 84 250r and am having problems with the rear suspinsion. First question is will 83 suspension work on an 84? Because i bought the bike and it had 83 suspension. but the guy i bought it from said it was an 84 so i figured someone put the wrong suspension on it. So i decided to put the right suspension on it and bought and restored a whole 84 pro link setup and went to put it on and it just wont work the shock is rubing on the swing arm cross member and i cant get the bolt in the top mounting point on the shock where it conects too the rear engine mout. So now im thinking maybe its an 83 but am hoping i will be able too convert it to 84 and use all the new parts that i spent time and money on. Are the rear engine mounts diferent on an 83 than an 84 im not shur? what do i do can some one give me some insight maybe send me some pictures of an 84 setup? Im pretty shur the 83 and 84 frame is the same so its got to be the linkage, shock or the rear engine mount but i cant find any pictures of an 84 pro link to compare to the 83.Any help would be greatly apreciated!

Hi David,
Yes, 83 suspension will work on an '84, but the engine mounts and linkage are different so be sure to switch those as well. In fact, even where the linkage mounts to the swingarm is in a different place, so the 83 and 84 swingarms are different.
I took an 83 parts bike and used the rear suspension on my 84 (since my 84 rear suspension was in bad shape). The '84 is a better setup, but the 83 works fine and I don't notice a difference at all for aggressive trail riding.
Here is a walk-around comparison before I swapped out the rear suspension - you can see the differences clearly in the video.
