So I've posted a couple questions along the way but i finally changed all the oil seals (that i could get to) and gaskets that I could, cleaned out some engine gunk (which surprisingly there wasn't much of) and slapped that Suzuki engine back into the Tecate. I filled her up with some thick 80w oil and after maybe 10-15 kicks she started up and idled beautifully. I had multiple leaks before but now I only have one and it's from the drain plug itself.

My neighbor gave me a plastic/fibrous washer type thing to seal my drain plug but it still drips slowly. I've tried with no washer, with a metal washer, and with the plastic type seal.... Whats something that will work well?

Also, the raising RPM problem I've noticed only occurs when I go to run the gas out of the carb but corrects itself when you turn the gas switch back to on... whats that about? Not a big deal but none of my other bikes or quads do that.. (2 or 4 strokers).

Anyways, I'm stoked that it fired back up, can't wait to get her in some dirt now :D

That's the way to do it http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/756/198o.gif

Also, have you tried some of that cork rubber gasket stuff for the drain plug?

Haha yea, I had to squish my Trike in there with 2 quads and 3 dirt bikes and a crap ton of other dirt bike stuff xD. I haven't tried any cork rubber gasket stuff but that sounds promising... the owner before me thought he could fix EVERYTHING with rtv...I love rtv but it's not useful in every situation thats for sure... I'll look into that cork thing though, you think Pepboys would have somethin' like that?

The reason why the idle goes up when you shut your petcock off is because the motor leans out. Maybe your petcock on the tecate works better than the other petcocks you have.

Dammit!

My drain plug on one of my trikes is kinda rigged. I have to use a little teflon tape to keep it from dripping. It works though.

Stripped drain plugs happens way too often. I have a tecate motor that they actually welded a patch over the old drain plug and rethreaded a smaller drain hole. That is also stripped. :-) I remember back in 85 with my less than 6 month old 250sx. We (me and a friend down the street) were changing the oil. We were trying to get the drain plug loose, when my friends dad stopped by and offered some help. He put the socket wrench on tighten and got after it. Pop!!, and pretty much shattered the case. He paid half and my parents paid half for a new case half and the cost to put it back together. Lesson learned: Look at the socket wrench first working the action to see which way it is turning before using it. Oh and.. righty tighty lefty loosey.. :-)

Well, on my other toys ('99 Polaris 400, '01 Honda 300ex, '01 KX250, '04 KX250f) they just sputter out and die when the gas runs dry in the carb. But yea the petcock on the Tecate does work nicely. *shrug* I guess as long as the RPM's aren't climbing while the petcock is is turned on its all good.

Hahaha oh man what a bummer! That reminds me, I should post a picture of my 1987 DR 370 case. SOMEHOW, it cracked down the side and the previous owner just welded it shut and it works haha! But anyways, yea it sounds like my threads may be stripped... So teflon tape will work, Damnit?

I haven't tried the teflon tape, but it sure sounds better than the rtv silicone trick.. which I have tried.. several times

Dammit!

Depends on how bad it is but it works for me.
