I tore down the 83 atc 110. Its all back together now. I did not replace the piston and rings like the 90. I put 20w50 in both the bikes. They both seem to smoke worse with that oil in it. Any suggestions?

First only use 10W/40 oil and if you want to go the cheapest route just replace the rings with new gaskets and it should last for a long time but if your cylinder is wore enough it may need to be bored. eBay is a cheap source for those parts but use OEM Honda rings. The great thing about the 110 Honda's is that you do not have to remove the engine when you do a overhaul. The head and cylinder will slide off, just turn your front wheel to the left but you may have to remove the front fender in order to remove the head and cylinder. It's an easy fix, an hour or 2 tops and I'm guessing 40 - 50 bucks is all you need.

I looked up the gaskets and oem rings on ebay, 35 bucks total thats including shipping . not bad

I already have a 4mm+ piston for it. All I have to do is have it bored over. I was waiting for my wife to drive it with the lower compression first to see if she could handle more power.

If it's a 110 we're talking about here I wouldn't be too concerned with the power increase from doing the bigger piston. You really have to gain some serious cc's to notice a big difference in power. She'll be fine.

yeah, you wont even notice the over bore.

Its the same piston that I put in my 90cc. It did make a big difference in power because of the compression increase by 3 points. My wife is super clumsy, so the slower the better. I'm just looking for something in the mean time that can cut down on the smoking.

Some additive might reduce that a little, but I'd be concerned about it affecting the oil bathed clutch.

I got one too.
Raging little trike for the dunes. smokes embarrasingly but runs so good I dont wanna take it apart this time of year.
somebody said it may have an EXhaust valve seal.
now wouldn't THAT be the trickest fastest cheapest 2$ fix you could imagine?
btw, if you do go for rings, I remember something about setting the oil ring gap somewhere other than the down position

I replaced my exhaust valve seal.

no dont, it was a joke im sure. Run ten fourty and make sure it stays full of oil til you rebuild the top end.
Or just tear it apart and rebuild the top end real quick.

i just put yamalube full synthetic in my 110. 15w 50 i think (?) and i can tell the difference. it shifts sooo much nicer than with golden spectro (thats what they use as shop oil at my dads work) and the last oil change was only 2 tanks of gas ago.

I just might before we go up north for the 4th.

What's the compression?
Doesn't the lay-down engines smoke a bit anyway because of the design?

synthetic oil will almost never burn and it will cause a lot less smoke. if your problem is still there then new rings

Its stock compression witch I believe is around 8:1. The piston I have is suppose to be 10.5 to 1. That is what they advertise but I think its around 10 to 1.
I will try the synthetic oil. In theory the oil atoms are the same equal size unlike natural oil where the smaller size ones can get past the rings.
