Motor rebuilding help please.

Hey fellas, me again, I got the head on the 185 motor today with the XR 200 piston, cam and gaskets. From what I am reading...The book I have says to loosen all the slack of the cam chain, and adjust it once its running? Am I missing something? Is there a way to adjust the cam chain without running the motor, I don't want to run the motor with no cam chain tension.

Just like you read it . Make sure their is no extra slack in the chain when putting it together and once its running adjust it again running it at an idle .

Would it do any harm to loosen the adjusters while it sits static?

I read through the 200x shop manual I found online and it explained it alittle better. says to loosen the 14mm locknut and rotate the motor 360 degrees and tighten.
