Tri Z resto pics updated 10-15-10

Finally got a Tri Z this week and going to start on a complete restoration. I want to get the big pieces out of the way first and need a little help on what to do or where to send them. I am wanting to do a big bore on the motor and was wondering what is the best cc to go to and the best place to send it to get done. The bike is not here yet(will post pics when it shows up) but I know the forks will have to be gone thru. Where is a good place to send them, trying to stay away from the local honda shop as much as possible. If any forum members do jobs like this let me know. Thanks.

Well this is not the original tri z I bought so now I guess I have two. The other one should be here this week. I am really going to need some help with this thing getting it all put back together so I hope everybody is patient with me. Could someone tell me if the swinger is an aftermarket or homemade. It looks as if the extended parts was stamped out of metal not cut. I will post some pics of the progress, working on tearing it apart right now.

Read a manual for the forks - they are really easy to rebuild - way easier than you could imagine. The new fork seals and fork oil would run you around $20, and no special tools are needed. Im guessing you would pay at least $70 if you would bring them to a shop / dealer, so you would be saving yourself some cash. A shop would be the best place to go to buy the seals and oil though. Make sure to use the parts unlimited seals, dont use the leak proof / pro moly seals. They say lifetime warranty, but are JUNK. I have never had one hold yet. With the regular parts unlimited seals, I havnt had one leak on me after a rebuild, and are 10-15 dollars cheaper. As for the big bore kit, I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Good luck, and ask questions if needed!

Thanks for the tips, what about fork springs. buy new stock ones or stiffer aftermarket?

Eventually ill be getting the progressive fork springs. I see Dennis Kirk has them for like $80.

Finally got it all tore apart last night and everything looks pretty good. headed to get all the pieces sand blasted and ready for paint. Does anybody know the correct yellow paint color for the frame?

Slowly making some progress on the Z. Got the swing arm from ATC Eric last week, and I am real pleased with the job. The frame has been finished for a couple of weeks so hopefully I can start putting some things together.

looks good so far! Is that swing arm produced by Eric??? I went to a powdercoater and looked at comparing colors directly with my frame and seemed to have a good assortment of colors! what are you going to do for a rear shock?

Thanks ripper, yeah the swinger is from Eric its also 6 over. The shock is going to be my next question. Will the stock Z shock work.

Your asking if the stock shock will work??? You mean for Drag/Dune riding? I would think you'd have asked these questions before getting into a custom swinger. I can tell you this...sell the entire rearend you took off minus the link and shock. Your about $700 behind on your Lonestar order for a complete Honda/ NEW Yamaha style setup. That also doesn't include the brake calliper and bracket, pads, sprocket and chain plus roller/slider, custom made steel braded brake line, and the double roundhouse carrier... has anyone told you this stuff? EBB should have an entire list you need to order from either Yamaha or Honda depending on their mockup. This may be an easier way to construct a swinger to adjust your chain between runs, but it's an expensive rearend. You'll have more $ tied up into the switch over than you will in the motor top to bottom. It will be Super nice when finished, hope your wallet holds up.

HAHAHA.... thats cool, and then ask a question on this thread after bashing it. Sorry I am not an expert on everything 3 wheelers and yes maybe I do take some steps when building something and not ask all the questions first but I think that is the fun part. learning as you go.

Nice work so far! I can testify for ATC Eric lol. And I didn't read the first thread post that well, you building a drag bike or just something to Tear around on? And WHERE did you locate an aluminum front/top mounted tank?!?!?! Looks beautiful so far man! And you can get away with runnin the stock shock and rear end/ bearing carrier from what I understand. Also at 6 plus on the San g you might be able to stretch the rear brake line but a stainless steel line would look alot cooler lol.

Anyways project looms great! If you can swing it then order the lone star rear end it's amazing and SUPER lightweight. But the stock axle or even just a wider aftermarket axle is cool too

ATCaddict, Im building this just to have some fun on around the farm. Would like to plan a trip to some dunes oneday but who knows. I am going to use a billet bearing carrier and all the goodies to go with it.

glamy,250rs, the tank was my design and had it made to my specs. I picked it up on friday and it will be a couple of weeks before I get a bill. I will let anyone know the price if they want. Im sure any tank made after mine will be cheaper because they have all the info and a pattern. They made some parts for a 62KW I restored and were really good on prices, they were big parts too LOL.

If I only had a rig welder and skills to go with it!! And that tank will probably hold like a gallon and a half I guess. Again love your full set up so far man. I'm doing a bunch to my 86r that's just to be used for fun
