I never understood the 200c thing. Lets make them slower, then try to make them the fastest of the slower?

Sweet trikes anyway though. I'd love to try one if I ever had the chance. Maybe then I'd get it.

Im younger but i think i can explain. maybe someone can add in here but..... today u can race a 250 4 stroke with 125 2 strokes and 450 4 strokes with 250 2 strokes. i think back then it wasent like that soo the 200 cc class would have been 185s 200s 200x etc imagine a 200r or tecate200 against those four strokes. no chance. not allowed by todays standards, its unfair

Oh I know the reason for doing it. I just don't understand the desire to turn your 250 into a 200 to run a slower class. I'd have rather taken my chances against the big dogs.

im mildy retarted on this 200r stuff but could it have been used to say build rider skills to move up to the real cc class of the bike? i mean there is a disconnect between a 200x and a 250r and nothing in the middle.

only reason i ask/say this because when i was into mx ,the true purpose of a 125cc bike was to build rider skills to move up to a 250 since its a large jump from an 80cc.

dont flame but im just asking if that could have been on of the reasons. only a real racer from that era prob can give a 100% good answer that we might be able to understant. if im wrong im sorry for blowing smoke up everyones rear here. its the best answer i can think of?

I've ridden a 200cc Tecate that a friend owned back in the day. I'd say the difference between the 200cc and 250cc Tecates is fairly small. It ran very well. My retarded friend parted it out after I moved away from California. I did get the seat though.

Some guys rode it to try and make the money. Some guys rode it cause they were "contracted" riders. And some guys rode it just cause they loved to ride. I can't believe no one has mentioned or complained about the 125cc class either.
But what really struck me as odd, no Tiger 200.

I love the 80cc and 125cc trikes. I'd love to have one. I've only seen pictures of the YZ80 Lonesome Tri-z picked up.

Yeah a factory ATC125R would have been sweet. 200x-sized frame with the CR125 motor

We built ATC200R cylinders for the old 81-84 air-cooled mostly for the "youth class" riders, the youth riders were limited to 200cc, (or under depending on age), to keep them off the larger faster 250cc machines. At first, this left the younger riders to run the 200cc and under 4 strokes or "special build" an under 200cc two stroke, (most were 200X's with 125cc engines swapped into the chassis). There were several builders who later down-sized the 250cc class machines to allow them to run in the 200cc class.

Besides, we....(the two stroke guys)... couldn't let guys like Mickey, and Curtis, have all the fun in the 200 class on those old 4 strokers....lol
