so i got this tri-z 250 a few weeks back and it does run its awesome in great shape but man it doesnt wana go fast it bogs out and acts like it is starving for fuel.... i checked and cleaned the carb,, checked the reeds, checked all vacum hoses, fuel pump, new spark plug, air filter. like i said it will run and drive but it will bog out most the time... in neutral it will rap out easily... just sounds liek its starving for fuel??? idk..... any ideas at all ............ please help i have a lt500 waiting for a drag race against my tri-z....

discribe whats its doing when you ride it.. where does it bogg 1/2 throttle / wide open/ when you stab it? what gear? stock carb? I havent played with the old MIC's in a wile!

se what its doing isnt consistent.. most the time it will idle it will rap out in neutral most the time sometimes not.... if you ride it, it will bog out in all gears if you stab the trottle... then when its runnign better for a few minutes itll take off good in first and second then bog in the rest of the gears... i got a aftermarket fuel pump off of ebay for it and it runs the same..... which doesnt really mean anything since its not the right pump... and is no were near the same price... but like i said most of the time itll rap out in neutral but will bog if you put it in gear and ride and give it a big fuel demand.... kinda like its starving to meee???? but idk not used to messin with this fuel pump stuff on em ive always had hondas???

you said you checked all the fuel and vacuum lines, on mine there was a small crack on the nipple that comes off the air box that the hose ataches too, it runs to the carb, I dont know, might be something to check. just trying to help!

Have you checked your plug? Let's see what your plug looks like. Maybe do a plug chop. Is it leaking goop out of the cylinder at the exhaust port or silencer?

What does it mean if its leaking black stuff out?

i put a brand new plug in when i got it but it might have fowled it out since then tryign to get it runnin.... i will try a new plug this eve gota stick the carb back on..... it is leaking a little black stuff out the front of the head like were the head attaches to the gear case???? maybe head gasket is my problem what you think dcreel

Its probably leaking out of the exhaust port where the pipe goes, and just running down. Spray some brake cleen around that area when its running and see if it sucks it in and changes the idle.

that aint going to make it run better is it? Is that going to not make it bog out no I dont think so.

Dirtbiken, whats your problem? Every post I see from you is negative. You spray brake cleen on the gaskets and if it sucks it up, i.e. changes the idle speed, the gasket is bad and needs to be replaced.

idk ill try that this evening... if the head gasket is bad it could be causing some problems.... been there done that..... but will try cleaning it off just really noticed it last night

The goop leaking from the front of the cylinder is an indicator that it is running rich. Checking your spark plug is also an indicator on how your motor is running. These indicators will help you in the direction to go with your jetting. But as Puggerton said you may also have an air leak. It doesn't hurt to check everything. Especially on a trike that is new to you. It wouldn't hurt to do a compression test as well for the general condition of your cylinder, rings, and piston. Check the wiring also, it may have a short causing your issue as well.

Pull your air box cover, and wet down your coil in a dark garage with it running.
See if you see spark jumping over to the frame through the coil casing..

headgasket?, waterpump seal?....drain the gear oil, it's only a quart. Milky? I've seen Z- run for months before a waterpump seal failure leads to blown head gasket to scorched cylinder.

what about the vacume line that runs from the fuel pump to the bottom of the cylinder, that little 90' elbow maybe is loose? I just want your tri-z to run good, just thinking of little things that I had to fix on mine. Im sure someone on here can help!
