Pics are kinda bad in the ad.I will try to post detailed pics today. The top end is a mugen top end. The gas tank Is reeealy ugly....And It has quite a bit of other mods built on to it but I have no idea what brand they are. I'm thinking that the pipe is a coffman system? But if you can help me identify the modifications on this bike that would be nice. Oh yea and didn't pay full price for it. I paid 150$ + 1 hour of driving. So I think I did pretty good.

Easier to use a host site like photobucket or something then use the link to do the post

www.photobucket.com is the easiest way. It's free and you don't take up space on your harddrive with pics.

The top end needs to be bored 50. over.. The top end is just slipped on there right now. The head also could be decked and the chamber could be re-don again too. Its really rough.

It aint mint but for $150 it's AWESOME!! And you sure don't come across a big bore mugen every day(i don't anyway lol)even if it does need bored! I wonder what the bottom end is like??

The bottom end needs looks it could use a crank . But even if It does not need the bottom end re-don I'm just gonna go through it anyway so everything is nice and fresh.

Will do xr132 will do. But before I can tear into this
I still have to fix my sister's blaster. Witch reeealy stinks cause I want to fix the thing and ride it!! But Thats what dad says I have to do.
Its something eletricle related. Witch is the most pain to figure out.
So I guess I will star with replacing the kill switch and then work my way down
to the stater.

That aint bad. yeah if it is a eletrical issue it is the most issue and is it sometimes a pain to fix. but like you said kill switch and wirk down to the starter and you will get er runnin. Hey what is wrong with your sis blaster?

Its the blaster that has the eletrical issue. Not the 250r.

what about rippin it apart painting the frame and findin a togther and running motor to plop in there? By the time you bore it clean up other misc internals and go threw the bottom end you may be better off finacially just pickin up another mill and having a parts motor.... just a thought, plus you'd be riding sooner.

One thing is that I CAN NOT work on it till I fix my sister's blaster. So pretty much I CAN NOT touch it. I don't want to buy a motor. Why? Because It's fun to tear motor's apart go through em and figure out whats wrong and stuff. And I have limited funds. It took me foreveeevvver to save up 1,000$ to use on a restore like this. PLUS this is a mugen 310 kit thats on this motor. Mugen kits are reeealy rare so this motor will be gone though bottom and top end. The Finished product should be nice.

I found this little surprise when I took the head off, but nothing a little head decking and chamber resurfacing can't fix
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff226/snowflakes09/IMG_2269.jpg

The cylinder is pretty banged up, but nothing a little cylinder boring can't fix
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff226/snowflakes09/IMG_2272.jpg

You can see where the piston got lodged in the cylinder bore
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff226/snowflakes09/IMG_2277.jpg

Do you think I could just use a buffer wheel to clean the cylinder skirt, or would I have to buy a whole new sleeve
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff226/snowflakes09/IMG_2274.jpg

I have never seen steel reeds, nor have I seen this kind of setup. So can you guys help me identify this kind of setup and brand?

I did some digging and your top end isn't a Mugen. The Mugen cylinders were stamped with Mugen on the side with the Kanji and had 6 bolt cylinders. The Mugen kits came as 250cc or 360cc kits. Your cylinder has 7 bolts. I found an ad that looks just like your top end. It's a Dico 300R kit. Here is the ad.

Doh! I Must be very dumb right now. Well I guess a dico 300r is rare to I guess. lol

300 air fooler sleeves and kits gettin a little rare? If you love it, fix it and ride it, or you could part it out to fund a waterpumper build!

I have always wanted a 1986 250R. But all the nice and cheap one's are over 6 hours away from me. As for the sleeve I think I could use a kustom kraft sleeve.
I guess I'm give gonna the motor a nice re-build put it in my other and maybe put it in my other 250r along with some other parts and then part the rest of out. Sigh*

I'd put a new sleeve in it and run it. Regardless of it being Dico, which was an awesome company back in the day. I'd say it's pretty rare and should be stout too with the 7 bolt cylinder and head. You've still got a 300R, and for the price you paid, you still got a serious deal. I wonder if it would take an overbore?

I'm pretty sure it will take a over bore. I'm hoping maybe 20. over. Also can you tell me if I can just use a buffer wheel on the jug skirt? It's pretty rustic. Just look in that one pic.

I don't see why you couldn't as long as you don't remove more material than the original od of the sleeve. I had a thought, what about electrolysis? I haven't used this method myself but people I know who have say it's nothing short of amazing.

I also found this craigslist

I'm hoping he'll take 1,200 or 1,000 bucks. But then on the other hand theres this one http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mcy/1754846508.html witch is a bit rougher but is quite a bit cheaper.

Desert gas tank is nice especially a clean one. The plastics and headlight are nice which is rare at any price. Good luck. Electrical issues are a fag.

Don`t worry, theres tons of good deals on `85-`86r`s people can`t give them away cause there stupid! But thats good for us! I bought 3 bikes in feb. for 650, `86 tecate, `85200s, `81 110 the gas tank on the tecate is worth 300 get my drift ? If you want a waterpumper get one and name your price!!!!!!

Oh ok. Also what are those tires called on your 250r? And the brand of the swing arm?

Shorty
05-26-2010, 04:04 PM
The swigarm is a +6 podos hard to find, got it on e-bay a few yrs back. The tires i bought 25 yrs ago, i don`t think they make em anymore. There goodyear rawhides they were cust. grooved by daryl smith in lemon grove ca. I like em alot cause they still slide and spin but have plenty of hookup for steep sand!

Way different tire your talking about there shorty. Goodyear has used the same name for more than one tire in there day. Carlisle makes a tire a lot like the one glamy has they call it a super lug, it's a pretty popular one they're used a lot on lawnmowers.
