hi everyone,
i been having trouble with my carburetor, my trike is honda 84 200s , hard to start especially in cold days. and when it starts the idle is unstable sometimes is normal and then goes up and suddenly it dies, or when i am in the top of a mountain and coming down, i put it in neutral and it dies, and to get it running again is very hard. usually i have to pushed it, to get back home. I already took the carburetor apart several times and blew it whit compress air. but it doesn't get better, i move the screws for the idle and the air and still the idle is unstable, it goes up and down like if was sucking vacuum, i change the spark plug and clean the tank, witch was very dirty, i also install a gasoline filter with new gas, and calibrated the valves lifters to 5mm. the calibration was very lose i also can heard the noise clicking in the motor. when i started, it felt different, the noise was gone and it ran a little better, but the idle was not fixed. so i took the carburetor apart and blew it whit compress air, i also clean the air conducts with a little wire, to make sure they were not plug, so i started the bike but it didn't felt right, it back fire and fire came out the carburetor, that was the last time it run, i been trying to start it for three days with no luck, can someone help?

Put a different carb on it.I put a new aftermarket carb on mine and it runs great. The carb was only 30 bucks.

Timing may be off if it backfired, also, if the valves are in spec, then try completely disassembling the carb and dipping it in carb dip, such as Barryman's, then use carb spray or even diesel fuel to clean all the jets and the bowl

you could try a repair kit for the carby if ya didnt wana go for an after market one. i did this for my 82 185s and 84 125m. both run properly since.

the compresion is 125 the first pull, the second pull 135.
i took the spark plug out and put my finger on it and pull the rope, i can feel it and see it with every pull.

i tried moving the timing a little both ways but no a atemp to start, the last time it started it sounded, like a valve was bent or to much gas, but i discarted the valves because the compresion was 125.

i preferred an after market one, the only problem i'am in tj. I need to find someone to buy it for me.

does the engine get spark and fuel? - does the plug get wet after a few pulls? have you tried starting it using the engine starter spray - highly flammable stuff. using this, if you have spark IT WILL START!? you spray it in the air intake and IT WILL RUN for a few seconds even if there is no fuel getting in.

My 185s has spark (replaced ALL electrical parts/wiring from my running bike and FINALLY got spark) and good compression but will not start. I sprayed into the cylinder and still won't. I did have a small fire from carb spray out the exhaust port (no exhaust on it). I'm guessing my timing is off and it's sparking on the exhaust stroke and not compression stroke. Maybe the OP is having a similar problem?

have you tried adjusting the needle on in the slide? it could ultimatly be causing the biike to run to lean.

has the engine been taken apart before? id say that if it has spark and will fire, if only once or twice, then the cam may be out 180 degrees. also check the timing mark on the fly wheel lines up when the timing mark on the cam also lines up

i forget which trike exactly but one of the jets had another tube underNEATH it, pulled it out with a dental pick...some sort of emulsion tube.

the other thing i did was...
sorta lost the clip that holds down the main needle.

then the engine would suck the needle up and rev real high but not restart.

that big main needle needs to be held down with that 'w' shaped clip which is held down by the throttle return spring.

it does have good spark, but the sparkplug seems dry, i haven't use the started spray, but i did pour gasoline in the intake while pulling the rope but nothing happend.

the engine has never been taken apart by me, the only thing i did, was try to clean the carburetor with only air, and a wire in the small holes. when i started it , it sound strange, like a valve was bent or to much gasoline, it back fire, and fire came out the carburetor and it stop, that was the last time it started.

i want to check the timing marks on the fly wheel, but i don't see them, the funny thing i only messed with the carb, not the timing.

mine does have the clip and everything seems to be in place, i don't know whats wrong.

PERONEGRO,
I have a rebuilt carb I did on a parts bike 83 200S i was working on. If you live in TJ & willing to travel to Tecate on Memorial day weekend, the carb is yours. I'm not using it. I'll be out there with my trikes for four days. Let me know.

i just got my carburetor from ebay last monday, and my trike is running again, much better.
It was hard to started but it finally did. It runs good and won't turn off at idle like it did before, it was a big improvement. thanks everyone for your help.
