spark plug shocking

hey guys i just have a quick westion should i feel a shock if i just hold on to the top of the plug or do i have to ground it? im asking theis because i'm still trying to find out if my 1970atc 110 has a spark, today i touched the black wire that comes from the startor and i felt a shock so that part is good i guess

You will feel a jolt simply by touching the wire.

Put a spare plug on the wire and hold the threaded jacket of the spark plug against the metal of the engine or bare frame bolt while you watch for a spark. It should be visible.
