just thought i would tell you guys that i spyed a 1986 200x on cl the other day and yesterday i was at my friends house after school and the guy that owned it called me and asked if i wanted to look at it and test drive it (IT RIPS). so i agreed and turns out he lived right next door to where i was at.the bike was completely stock and didn't smoke. lucky huh. over all it looked nice but it had some issues. first off 350x front end. then to the engine the head pipe was welded on, the rear brakes didn't work nor did the front. and it needs a new clutch cable.l so my question is is a 1986 200x worth $750 in this condition?

i payed 450 for mine and all the brakes work and is all stock except exhaust and the fenders were rough id say asounds 750 sounds steep depending on why the brakes dont work. pads , fluid , rotors you could end up spending a couple more bills on brakes and a bill and a half on a new pipe ? and id say if it has a 350X front end that s not quite completely stock.

Id look into the welded headpipe a little more. Offer him 550 and go from there.

lol ya the 350x front end isn't stock lol. i was referring to the motor. the plastics are stock and don't look to bad. just one hole from the exhaust touching it. he claimed that the brakes needed to be adjusted and new pads and fluid installed

i am kinda hoping that he welded the head pipe to broken exhaust bolts rather than the cylinder

man if he welded it to the cylinder I can ganantee you it aint worth 750.

The 86-87 is rare, totally different machine. They go for more. I didn't even know you could weld steel to aluminum. So hopefully he didn't do that. Got a picture of what he did?

there it is

but it seems that by me in central Missouri that 200x's go for a bout 1500 to 2500, 350x's go any where from 2500 to 4000 so i thought that a 200x for 750 was wild and i had to go check it out

86 should have white rear fenders and front. In the one pick showing the left side it looks like it has a CDI cover, if it does its not an 86. And it should say "ATC" on the side of the seat. I dont think thats an 86, but I could be wrong.

square frame and square swing arm with 1986 sticker on left side of frame. he is original owner (well his dad is) and he says that it is all stock with stock motor besides the forks which are off a 350x. thats just the top of the engine with over spray on it. i know it through me off too

those rear fenders are definately not origional, but if it really has 6 speeds, then its either an 86 or 87. i have a 83 with 5 speed. it the exhaust is welded to the cyllender thats a big no no. if its to some bolts, that can be fixed (worst case senario new header pipe) the 350x front end is not really a big turn off, i like the 350x front, better tilt for bumps, and the brakes are at least there, can be fixed, i never actually use the rear breaks, and you can slow yourself down by just shifting... looks like a good deal. i spent 700 on mine (**MINT**) i'd say offer 650 or 700. 86s arent necissarily rare, but they have 6 gears, and they're fast, so thats a plus, good luck and let me know what you do.

you can get red maier 86 fenders i think thats what they are the shape looks like 86/87 as opposd to more of a straight edge on the back of the fener like the 1st gens. and the seat should say atc but the seat could have easily been recovered

my old neighbor wanted to sell me his 86 200X for 300 bucks, but he was pretty loaded that night. (I should have bought it!) titled and all. granted the seat sucks, plastics has cracks and it smokes a bit. I called him back and asked if he really wanted to sell it but now he wants my glock 17 for it. ATC's in tucson really dont bring that much money, must be a location thing. jim
