i need to have a new drive shaft and clutch put in and the guy is charging me 400, is this a good price? the other thing is i was looking at doing a motor swap and the guy said it would be 550 for a totally rebuilt motor, i don't know how much they usually go for. which one should i do. my motor needs a new stud for the exhaust a new shaft and a new clutch but the top end was just rebuilt last year?

I'm sorry, my crystal ball is in the shop. If I had it, I could tell what the machine is you're talking about.

What do you mean by drive shaft? Like the output shaft the front sprocket installs on?

yeah its gonna run around 400 bucks or so because as we speak my trans on my x needed a new countershaft and shift forks and that requires the cases to be split open. top ends are relatively easy to do and inexpensive but the trans can eat up your wallet!!!!!!!!!

I've seen some for that price, one locally was $35 but sold before I got it.
It almost would be cheaper to buy a good bottom end.

thats alot to dump into an 84x motor. I see clean good running 200x's selling for 5-7 hundred, so i'm sure you could find a solid used motor for 2-3 hundred bucks, then you can use yours for parts. You may be able to find a nice 200s motor even cheaper, and make it an auto x.
