i have a atc 1985 200m with 25 tires on the back, it does not seem to going very fast. What does a usual 200m go?

well since my atc110 goes 110MPH if i do my math the atc200m will go 200MPH? hahaha but i would say 50MPH. anyone have personal experience?

Is it all stock?

i had an all stock 86 trx 200sx which is the same engine for the most part go 48, but yeah all stock, give or take 5MPH. why where do u think yours is at?

it seems to top out very fast, never got it clocked

its because of the big tires, stock is 22"? 25"s will gear it WAY up. unless 25" is stock, but i think thats only the big red

so if I put some 22s on it will go faster?, I think there was 22s to start but when i got it it had all 3 flat tires/rotten

well what do u mean faster? gearing up raises top speed and lowers acceleration. gearing down raises acceleration and lowers top speed. are you able to rev out in top gear? if not your over geared and are losing speed in both acceleration and top speed since you cant wind it out.
going down to 22s will make it have more pep and pulling power and lower top speed, but i think with 25s your over geared/under powered and arnt getting that top speed your geared for, and your still losing the acceleration in the process. i think 22s would be all around best for your 200m unless your strictly mud bogging. also check to see if your sprocket sizes are stock. a bigger front sprocket will gear up aswell wil a small rear sprocket will gear it up. then there's the opposite too by reversing that

I thought the M had 25"?
Wouldn't bigger tires = more distance per rotation, but more force needed to initially start moving? So once up to speed, they'd be faster?
Also, how much would weight affect it? Cause one of my old 200's topped out at like 28 while driving down the road next to my buddies truck for relativity.

yes i just checked, im sorry the M has 25" stock. you complain of a low top speed correct? like i said check sprocket gearing. theres many things that can cause a slow machine other than gearing. brake drag, tired engine...ect...

we did buy a new rear sprocket, dont know if it is original size?

tired engine?? would changing the oil help, its pretty dirty.

im not sure what size is stock, get yourself a manual to look it up, http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?56218-Get-your-trike-service-manuals-here!-Updated-9-13-07
also find what size the new sprocket you put on is.

I'd also change the front sprocket, more teeth is more top speed, less is more pulling power/acceleration, correct? (I may have that backwards)

correct, but over gearing (gearing up to much) will cause loss in top speed since you dont have enough power to pull all the top speed.

what about changing oil

well you should always change you oil once its dirty but its not the cause of a weak tired engine. it may be the cause from not changing the oil and the engine got worn out but changing it wont magically make it faster. what i mean by tired engine is its worn out and needs a rebuild/tune up. stuff get warn after 20+ years lol might be time to pull her apart and slap a new piston w/rings in it. does it burn oil? does the exhaust smoke alot? blueish smoke?

Could be thats its just a 200m and they are pretty slow to begin with. Is it possible that its running fine but you think it should be faster?
MorganHonda200!
05-10-2010, 08:43 PM
it has power to go , not the best for pulling but enough power to catwalk it
MorganHonda200!
05-10-2010, 08:47 PM
has not burnt any oil , no smoke at all, just a little when pulling. Will change oil . One more thing, it has in the past got to the point every time you wanted to drive it you would have to change the spark plug

just heard that all the 110s and 125s are very fast so i thought a 200 would be faster?

Umm maybe for their size and age they may be but I think the 200 only has like 5-6 horsepower. I could be wrong, and if it needs the plug changed that often and isnt smoking much you have some typr of air/fuel issue. Try cleaning your air filter and then move on to your carb. Hopr this helps you out....

ok, when i read this i thought u meant it toped out at a fast speed, now i realize u meant it tops out quickly. lol i was in the shower and like OHHHHHH thats what he meant. correct?
as for needing to change the plug alot, that means your running rich. u need more air/less fuel. make sure your air filter is clean and nothing is blocked up.
i know the atc110s go 40mhp and have 8 horse power, the 200 should have more than that and go faster than 40. if not that what a disappointing trike.

I agree on some of the things RPM was saying. Although from experience I would say a 200M will only go around 40 mph maybe a hair faster. my cuzs had one before I got my 225 dr and it would go about 40-43. and then it would top out. My 1985 Yamaha dr 225 will top out at 55mph.

well over a hundred dropped out of a plane from 10 thousand feet lol and a 200x stock is around 15 horse so i would estimate a 200m to be 12 due to the smaller carb

Thanks everyone, Next thing on my list is to clean the carb, Thanks again
