the other night ( i work second shift ) after work i just had to take the 2 hundie for a ride , so today a neighbor lady comes over and very rudely asks me " do you have to ride your 3 WHEELER every night at midnight ? it wakes me and my kids up ! " anyway i nicely explained that what she hears "every night" cannot be me cuz ive only had it out twice after dark , no headlight , but she insisted i am the culprit , anyway like i said i was curtious and politely apoligized as i have 2 kids of my own and didnt want to give anybody any more reasons to hate 3 wheelers and those who ride them , on the other hand i was quite proud that my beast can wake the sleeping neighbors ( loud pipes saves lives ) right ?
And i have to wonder ... there is about three loud harleys and 1 or 2 giant stereos on wheels that rattle my windows at all hours on my street , id be willing to bet she hasnt said a word to them, just a hater ! sorry for the long post i just had to vent .

I work afternoons also, home about 2:00am. Ive came home more then once with a cop waiting at the corner or infront of my house for me. The trucks got flowmasters and dumps at the back of the cab. drop it in 1st and let it scream my hole block. I figure its pay back for them running there weed eatters and leaf blower at sun rise.

if your bike is loud just keep in mind loud pipes when you got neigbors close is not always the greatest idea, if your in the woods then who cares but if your tooling around having back yard fun and it nasty loud i'd get ready for more neighor fits and what not.
im not sure how its gonna work with me having a 250r that loud compaired to my quite 4 strokes that all my neigbors dont care about.

I can't stand Harleys. I am a gearhead, through and through. My Mustang is loud and my tirkes are pretty loud. I have had pick-ups with straight pipes or tiny glass packs that deaden next to no sound at all. But I hate Harleys. There are carshows within 4 miles of my house in one direction and about 3 miles in the other. Loud cars and trucks are constantly going back and forth by my house and it never gets old. Those fricken Harleys rattle my brains. I hate 'em.

We have some guy on our street with a Harley and what sounds like straight pipes, he like to drive to the end of the street every morning around 6:00 am and get a cup of coffee, smokes, paper or something down the street (???), then he comes back home after 10 friggin minutes. Drives me nuts because in the spring and fall I like the windows open to catch some fresh cool breeze and I don't need some tractor sounding machine rattling me awake. Funny thing is, the guy gave me a dirty look when I took my trike for a spin on the street to test out the brakes or clutch adjustment. I guess what I did was illegal, and what he's doing isn't, but its annoying as hell.

Actually, what he is doing is probably illegal, most states have a maximum DOT set decibel limit measured at a set distance. I know here in WI, 90% of harleys would not pass this test even at idle. It really makes me mad when you see some good ol' boy pulled over after work because the muffler fell off his 1993 cavalier and he hasn't had the time or money to fix it, and in the next minute, 30 harleys roll by which sound like thunder from 2 miles away and the police just turn there heads. I guess living in the state where they are made makes them some kind of untouchable super-legend. I don't hate harleys, but to me there just another bike....they outsource parts from mexico and japan...they lay off there workers when times get tight...there just another company trying to make a profit. There bikes are nothing special,,,,they were made special by the media/marketing surrounding them. EVERYONE should show the same respect for others and abide by the same rules. As for the first post...I think you did the right thing by being polite and respectful about the problem...the only bad thing is that ATV's seem to be the easiest thing to blame when there is a noise problem. It might be a good idea to stand near her house and have someone else ride your trike in your riding area so you can here for yourself what it sounds like. If it sounds like it would bother you, then most likely it bothers her. It would be a good test to see if your being singled out.

glad im not alone on this , working nights i am not a morning person and people mow and weed so fricken early even when i was a day shifter i thought those folks were incredible rude to be mowing at 6 in the morning on a weekend i just dont get it, it prob dont help that my custom 1990 gmc sierra with a 350 and straight pipes isnt exactly quiet either , but i agree harleys are too loud and just too comercialized these days every tom dick and harry thinks there some billy bad ass just cuz their on a harley

Not trying to start anything but, its not just Harleys lol. buddy at an old shop had a build Yamaha raider, you could hear him from many blocks away. Figure in most cases they leave the bikes alone cause its just so easy for them to run.

i know people think loud is cool, or make more power but alot of people never take into consideration other people. i know when i'd ride sportbikes at night id try an coast as far as i could up the blow so i didnt wake my neighbors who are 85+.
i myself cant stand anything loud now, a stock exhaust on a 200x is loud to me, damaged ear on my right side. gotta wear earplugs to even run a sweeper...
guy up the street just put a HMF muffler on his warrior...its so loud i can here it idleing when im in the house, 8 houses away...hmm no wonder he never rides it anyware!

Coasting to the house. Brings back memories. I used to do the same with my RD400 way back, having a racing type exhaust with expansion chambers and silencers that weren't so silent.

Not to steal this thread, But its inspires a rant of my own. Im so sick of everyone in the world thinking any big bore v twin is a Harley. Harleys are not the only v twin out there that can sound good. I hate Harleys because people that see a nice cruiser think its a Harley, when its really a Kawi or Yamaha De badged. Im better now and I am sorry to steal the thread. Those CRUISER V-TWINS are most likely the asses waking your neighbor.

Put the Pythons on any V-twin and you get the same, Its the motor configuration, Not the wanna bee American made bike. Dont get me wrong they are and can be a nice ride, But they are as fake as Polaris as far as being made made in the USA. They are just assembled here, Just like the Jap bikes.

Right, because Harley Davidson doesn't use anything but parts made in America.....What's the brand of that carb on that archaic V-twin? I've owned many sweet bikes because of being a motorcycle tech. I miss my Yamaha Roadstar Warrior, I do not miss my Buell Thunderbolt POS. I'm originally from WI and I don't like Harleys or anything related to them nor the billybadass, weekend warrior, toughguy poseurs who own them. I also don't respect inconsiderate a$$holes who make noise just because they feel it's their right or they think it's cool. Loud pipes piss people off, is what the sticker should read. When you piss people off, new laws get passed, somebody's freedoms get diminished and it's your fault! Think of others, show respect and make compromises. If my viewpoint is wrong, then please enlighten me.

i am generally cautious and curtious i slowly ride down my street slowly in third gear just putting , its the initial start up that gets em i think due to jetting issues i think ?it really roars to life ( on the first kick ) and will only start fully choked.

i feel like i should clear something up , i dont hate harley davidsons or the true bikers that ride them , my grandpa was a die hard H D man and would dig himself up out of his grave and " tie my nose in a knot " if i was to say that .its just the rich weekend warrior trailor queen posers that get to me , and how they seem to get away swith 2am loud pipes my grandpas bike wasnt loud and still sounded mean. i just like the loud growl of my 2 hundie.

Just because the pipes on any ride are loud doesnt mean you have to use them sound in a populated or restricted area.

loud pipies do save lives, but it gets annoying. I have a Crown Vic that is over 120DB. But I am in the country and cannot afford to pipe it. When in town, it has gotten some attention, but nothing with cops or annoyed people since I do not go there all the time.
I hate all the ppl with new Harleys and mod them and make them loud, I am a Harley guy, but I am running straight shotgun staggered pipes on my '76. I think you should choose legality over safety, but who am I to say that haha.

i dont mind a loud bike, or car. i had a GMC truck with a set of decent duals on it that would set off a car alarm if i was sitting next to it adn landed on the skinny pedal, and a mustang that had a decent growl to it, i enjoy teh sound of a strong motor....but it bothers the hell out of me when they rip around town in 3rd gear just to rattle your windows as they pass or jump on it to see who can run to the next stop light 100ft up the road...its just a cry for attention..."hey look at me, im a douchebag" lol

People ask me when im going to get my exhaust fixed. Then they dont beilve me that i spent money to have it sound like that. The best is my buddys F350, modded powerstroke, straight piped, lifted just enough to have the tailpipe window hight. Not only is it loud, but they really love the sut.

Some kid at my school did that with his Ram, it smokes like crazy and he smokescreens everyone. I dont really mind because I stay away from him, but it just seems like a waste of fuel IMO. I need to get my truck to smoke like the car in Uncle Buck, that was just cool.

Some of the Harleys are just TOO loud, as are the DG and COBRA pipes on any ATC's........
I do think a little noise is required on streetbikes, people are on the phone (with a dog in the arms too!!) and merely say "I didn't see him"; My buddy Donny came by a couple years ago, he said 2 times he got cut off on the rotary (we have those in MASS bit IDK if other states do) and he told me he was done riding streetbikes. People just do not pay attention. They have found (in there lovely studies) that a person on the phone or texting while driving is WORSE than a drunk driver and I can see why........
Streetbikes do need pipes that alert people, but some are obnoxiously loud and I wonder why they pass inspection but a small leak in my vehicles exhaust and I fail...........
I've lost a couple buds to streetbike accidents; I cannot have one or I'd be going 120MPH as much as possible, passing cars, riding wheelies and jumping sidewalks. BUT, at least I am aware of my limitations!! I'd love to have one but it would kill me, or I should say "I would kill me" but I hope I never have another friend hurt in an accident from some soccer mom with kids screaming in the car while she's on the phone and holding a Paris Hilton type dog. Enough is enough, it ought to be ILLEGAL!! Please be careful Roy!!...........
As far as trikes, F&%$!$#! Supertrapp has to cost so much money that allot of guys grab a DG or Cobra and there cheap for a reason and they are far too loud if you have neighbors you respect and wish the same courtesy back to you..............I always let off the gas when going through a residential area but I still get the head turn and the jaw drop. Heaven forbid I ride slowly to my next path or powerlines. I guess unless you have a friend with a 40acre compound, there just isn't much riding which is a shame. Not just for US, but I guess they'd rather have a kid stay in the home and use the computer or play video games. I say that if we ride power lines or RR tracks, we do so at our own risk; Instead we get cruisers chasing us down power lines which I find quite amusing!!

I hated the new cobra exhaust I put on my 350X so much, I sold the trike... (kicking myself now) Should have just gotten exhaust that didn't sound like dookie.... Harleys sound like wet farts to me, from the p*ssies that ride them... (let me specify, yuppy p*ssies, and their weekender Harley costumes)

Wow the loud guys have 19, the quiet guys have 16, way to better the sport boys! Many of you new guys wonder why our hobby is so misunderstood and looked down upon by others, QUIET YOUR TRIKES DOWN! I mean $h!t, we have enough things against us as it is! Use some common sense and common courtesy. Buy a quality exhaust or fab one up instead of using a cheap, loud or unpacked silencer. And please, don't complain when the neighbors call the police! You brought it upon yourselves.
