Hey guys,
Can anyone give me any advise on the best wat to install the chain for my atc 90. The new one that I bought is oversized so I have to measure it & make it to the right size. I checked the service manual but it doesn't have instructions on how to install. My bike has the sprocket in the middle for the the tension adjustment. Also last night I was able to turn it on for the first time in 15 years.. Sound really good & all the gears shift thru smoothly. The idle though tends to accelerate & deccelerate when the bike is running on idle??

Thx!

I've seen the W clip that holds the main needle DOWN sometimes flips over so the needle can float up and down and give you that hi lo idle ..
or if the timing is off enough, the engine is not sure where it wants to run so it loads with gas and then runs lean and so on.

My$ bet is on the needle holding W clip under the throttle return spring inside the main piston.

be careful tho, they FLY!!!!!!!!! I do mine inside a nice clean cardboard box with a towel covering it all. just in case it tries to fly away into the gravel.

as far as cutting a chain to fit?

it help to have to old one to match it to.

Since I am a dinosaur and part caveman, I grind off the peened over link pin , and center punch the pin into a log, like you'd split firewood on and make sure you have a master link.

or

you can buy a chain break tool but I've never seen one in person
or maybe a bike shop could cut it to size for you

I connect the new chain to the old chain, using the old master link, and pull it around the front sprocket. That way to side cover doesn't have to be removed.

Oh boy! I took the old one out because it was so seized & kinked with rust, not able to run throught the sprocket. The chain tension on this atc is the middle sprocket right? Also I'm trying to fix the dents on the gas tank, not big ones just alot of little ones. Will bondo work good for this kind of application? Thx
