rear rims

im in the market for new rims and I plan on running 22x11x10 tires on them. I guess what I want to know is, is there any advantage/disadvantage to using a 10x10 rim vs. a 10x8 rim?? other than weight, of course. thanks----Joe 8)

Depends if you want to run a 8" wide tire, or a 10" wide tire.

10" rims are for the track. The advantage is lack of sidewall to flex, and less weight. For trails, some sidewall flex is desireable, but the biggest disadvantage is there is too much rim an not enough tire to protect it. If its rocky where you ride, your 10" rims wont last very long.

Oops, reread your post, and I take it your talking width. Id go with 8" width rim on an 11" wide tire, as thats about typical as the the bead width. If you stretch the bead out to 10" it will lower the profile of your tire even more, which is something you dont need on 10" high rims.

Hey Joe,

even though the KXTs all came stock with 10 in rear rims, I'd go with 8". One thing to remember, If your Tecate is an 85, you will have to switch to the smaller 84 Tecate hubs to run 8" Tires. From your avatar it looks like they are the smaller hubs already. If they are, just order the rims for an 84 KXT hub. Personally, I'd run a 20x8 tire. 22x8 are aweful "baloony".


Nevermind, your talking width. I made the same mistake as TimSr.! on width, I'd stick with the 10" wide rims.
