250 es shifter problems

I was riding today and my shifter started acting up. What its doin is when you shift up it pops back down like it should but when you down shift it sticks down and you have to pull it back up with your foot and then push back down to down shift again and then pull back up for it to actually go into gear.

I had the same issue this winter. #19 was broken in this scematic. It is on the trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro shaft. Pretty easy to replace really. You are gonna have to pull the case off and have a look see!

Check part # 21. I had a SX that did the same thing and it was part #21 that was broken.

#21 breaks on allot of the ES and SX models. Just yank that left cover and you'll find the issue :beer

I have the same problem but its sticking in both directions
I thought it would have been the spring #20 on the scematic

Havent had a chance to mess with it yet. Probably tommorrow i will check it out. i will post what i find

Part 21 was broken

There is a design flaw with # 21.

First, I think it's a hair too hard, it shouldn't have been hardened so much, still hard but not that hard.

Second, the hole it threads into: the threads down a couple/few mm's and a larger diameter hole is above them.

Those threads should be flush with the top surface IMHO. I'm not sure why Honda did that.

I think that area, forces the back of the bolt against the shoulder to take up any forces and hence the reason they snap off and it's nearly always right behind 14mm shoulder............
