I was wondering are OEM metal head gaskets better than aftermarket head gaskets?

Some(thicker) copper gaskets can be annealed and reused.

Never used a metal one myself but according to a guy I know who built drag engines, in a stock application the paper ones seal better. Super high performance copper is better.

I herd honda changed over to the metal ones because the led content in the original style . I believe the old style is best for stock application . If you can find a copper BAPP one thats the best way to go and you'll never have to buy one again as its reusable .

The OEM gasket is not just a pure copper gasket. I prefer OEM for headgaskets just to be safe. Cardboard is cardboard so I'll use any brand on case covers but many times I use OEM headgaskets but it also depends on the brand and type of motor. Some are notorious for failures if anything other than OEM is used.

Admittedly, I have had no issues with any of the Vesrah gasket kits.....

On the 83/85 200X just make sure to put the o-ring on the right stud or the oil won't get up to the head. Shows you which one in the book.
