Again, I tore this cylinder off for inspection purposes - this ATC has sat since 1990 and not run since then. I happened to notice the black on the reeds and the piece of it kind of ate away?? Anyone seen this - I wanted to make sure it wasn't in the crank but I blew it out and couldn't find any debris. What causes reeds to do this?? Also the rev plate looks all beat up - is that typical from the reeds opening from different throttle positions? I have new Boys reeds so I don't believe I even need this plate - correct? Thanks!

That looks like heat warpage on the reeds... Maybe alot of back firing or something?

you dont need those spacers.. New reeds come with small spacers with them.

The bike is completely stock with stock piston - if anything it was running rich with the carbon on the piston top? Backfiring? I thought maybey because it had sat so long and maybe had some old bad gas in there or something?? everything was varnished.
