When I went to do it I could not see the timing marks through the dirty black oil on the 185S's that I was refurbishing. Is it common to need an oil change to see those marks?

I didnt need an oil change to see the marks but then again, I change my oil regularly.

You guys don't have a clue.If you have oil where your timing marks are there is a problem.take off the pull starter and clean off the flywheel, thats where the timing marks are.You should be able to unscrew the little cover and look inside to see the marks,
