Hey, so yesterday I got an 84 200es yesterday for 100 bucks, and its quite the hobo-engineering marvel. there are trailer hubs(bearings and all) welded onto the stock hubs, with 30ish inch tires on it. The pullstart is missing the spring and paul stuff, I dont know what happened to the poor things wiring, and the frame is pretty ugly in the rear. anyways, i had a few questions. sence the pullstart is currently out of commision, i've been trying to start it with the e-start. The first thing i did was hook a car battery up to the three wheeler circuts with jumper cables. then turned the ignition with a screw driver, and nothing happened. I assume that atleast the neutral light should come on? anyways, then i pressed the start button, nothing happend. (big suprise). then i put it in reverse, reverse light didnt come on. I assume the bulbs for the lights are just burnt out.
Today, i printed off a manual at school (all 247 pages) and brought it home. Ive been checking the wiring and what not, and have some questions about components. I've never delt with anything with a battery or e-start or anything, so im still trying to figure all this out.
1. what does the regulator do? i assume it's involved in keeping a consistant flow of power when the rpms go up and down?
2. what is the "inhibiter switch" and where is it? i see it in the manual wiring diagram, but cant find it on the bike.
3. starter relay. i found it, but have no idea what exact purpose it holds. i did all the checks the manual says to do on it (like checking continuity with 12v going through it) and i passes. However, i was not able to hear a "clicking sound" coming from it when i pressed the starter button.
4. what is the "dc consent" and "consent fuse"? im getting pretty damn confused. haha get it? I checked both the fuses i could find, and they havent been blown yet. one was in a screw-open black case, and the other was in a fold open white case.
5. starter motor.
I think something might be wrong with it. I took the left case cover off, revealing the stator, and a bunch of gears linking the starter motor to the flywheel. i took the circlip and gear off the shaft coming out of the starter motor, and was able to turn it. When i turn it, i goes almost a complete 360 but then sticks on something. right before it sticks, i can hear a grinding dirt/rust sound. i assume this isnt normal? I tried to take the motor out, but i cant figure it out. I removed the bracket holding the back of it on, then removed the gear and circlip from the gear assembly. should it just slide out, or is there more holding it in? is there a way to bypass all the wiring in the bike and just clamp a negitave wire coming from a car battery onto the frame and the positive one onto the connection on the starter motor? or is this some special job for the starter relay?
thanks,
-Patrick
