View Full Version : What to do with 250r engine?

I have an 82 250R, no piston, but two cylinders and heads. (One is black, maybe an 83/84?)

I just picked up a CR480 engine to use in my R frame. I need a piston for that, gaskets, maybe some other parts (anything I should do to the 4 speed CR to maximize performance?), as well as the adapting kit for the ATC frame, and later a pipe for it.

Should I sell the R engine without a piston, or complete it with a new piston ($150 or so to complete) and then try to sell it? Part it out?

Then I will sell the CR frame/tank/seat/plastics as well. Any idea on how much an air cooled engine is worth, either missing a piston or complete with new wiseco top end?

This one was liquid cooled, sold for $500

A few other 'rebuilt' ones are askin g $795 or so on ebay.

Thanks

air cooled engines are not bringing much, but try and sell as lot for about 350 on ebay and see what you can get, IMO spending the money on a piston and bore or hone is not worth it cause you will not get it back

Hmm. What do you think the chances of me pulling 300-350 are, as is? If I cant get more than maybe 200 in hand, I may rebuild it and keep it until I find a use for it.

i'd sell the motor on hear or either airfoolers.com if you dont want it give people who would want it a chance to buy it.

bigbore sells a kit with everything you need to put the 480 in the r frame, and i think he had cpi? make pipes.

check denniskirk for 480 pistons

why not rebuild the r motor and toss it in the cr frame? so then ya got 2 things to ride lol

That was one thought, my problems:

No swingarm, rear tire/wheel anything related, forks are unsafely secured ones from a 350x. No rear plastic. Mounts may not match up since I need to buy a kit for the CR motor in R frame. I may do it. The seat/two plastics/tank/frame are in decent shape.

I can see the counter-balance being a huge obstacle there. The ATC motor is much larger in size.
