Its a 82 200, pull start. The start worked perfect up till the last two times ive gone riding. Both times its been throw selty water over the stater. The problem started with the cord not going all the way back in, you have giggle it and it would go. then it got to the point were it just wouldnt go back in. Pull it apart figuring it was full of junk, rubber seal was rotten and it was. cleaned it up lubed it all up. works good till you put that final E-clip back on to hold it all togther. If you pull the cord out you have to take the clip off and the cord coils up. Since its a progressive problem i dont think its the spring its self. could it be? i pulled the cage part up a little to see the spring and it was still tentioned so i covered it in oil and the shaft it rides on, still does it. ideas? Plan to take it out may long and at the speed my local honda deal is ill be happy to see the parts buy then. it took 10 days just to get a tire tube, they dont stock any atv/atc parts, just dirt bike. Thanks for the help.

got it so the cord rewineds know. new problem know. when you pull on it the teeth dont stick out. they may do it once then you have to pull it apart. the plate for some reason is sliding over the one tooth and not letting them stick out.

That metal cover that actuates the fingers may be worn out.

Any other input? What do you guys lube it with? grease, oil? it worked perfecly fine till i opened it up to clean the junk out of the spring. still cant get it to engage. you can slid the plate back and forth it it moves but doesnt work when you pull the cord. just a thought, it doesnt have the decompresson stuff in it anymore, could that be a problem?
