A friend of mine, instead of rebuilding the carb on his Tecate, swapped one on from a Yamaha 250 four stroke dirt bike, I asked him what kind but that's all he knew about the carb. The Tecate is an 85. Besides lack of performance is there going to be any problem with this set up? It lost all its top end power.

My only concern is that it would be running too lean and he might cause some top end damage. If he's running rich I am not worried about it. I am going to try to get it in trade somehow but want to make sure he didn't run it too lean and cause top end problems.

At one time, two stroke carbs were made differently and may still be so. The two stroke carbs typically have a more sophisticated air emulsion tube full of holes. Can't say I understand the intricacies, but that's typically a feature of 2 stroke carbs. Must have been a reason they did it that way.
