check you itle settings, after i redid my top end and went to start it i had to kinda reset the carb all over again and add a new plug. it should fire up soon unless your gas is very old like mine cuz i had sat for 2 months or so.

check to see if its timed right again, and check intake and exhaust valve clearances too again.

If your valves are too tight it will be very hard to start so check that and maybe mess with the timing if that doesn't work.

Do you mean valve timing or ignition timing? (which may be fixed....Not sure if the pulse generator plate can be advanced or retarded?) but flywheel shaft keys do shear and rotate sometimes and that can screw with the flywheel but I think down there we just have a lighting coil so being a few degrees off wouldn't matter I would think?

Unless the timing chain jumped which I've honestly never seen happen - I'm not sure whats going on there, hmmm.... Easy to check it though.... With "T" at TDC and on the compression stroke.

I agree with the other guys, get a new plug in there, fresh gas and adjust the valves cold. (Might be .003 for both IV and EV?? not sure, but easy to find out with all the free manuals here - big thanks to Mike Monroe for his help with this stuff!!)

What stinks is when your 85 and under won't run,you start to think about the kicker gears etc as there known to fail...... And they are a BEAR to change! (split the case, blah blah blah....) Most likely part of the reason guys get complete NEW Lifans to there door for like 350$ give or take...........

Did it run well before? is the gas a couple months old? Change it up, run an inline filter and clean the carb too - every jet removed etc etc.

I don't know ALL the models very well, but it'd usually the general easy stuff that fails. I'd see if the plug coil is in spec as far as OHMS go too...... Just because it has a spark, that doesn't mean it's at the right time or a high enough voltage.

Sometimes even the pick up plate under your CDI cover can come loose (it may be advanced or retarded? or just corroded, and or the mechanical advance and it's pivots and weights may be seized up.... Check it out and report back cadet!! :D :beer

Dumb <85's  I'm just trying to throw you some thoughts............

Good luck bud!! (Aaaaah yes, so nice to be back online!! - 3 days without 3WW drove me NUTS!! even more nuts than I am normally in my idea of a normal world..........) :D But, it's my world!! :naughty:

did you redo the top end? i made the mistake of having my cam 180 degrees out by putting the cam gear on wrong. took me a bit to figure it out but once i did mine fired right up.

i had the cdi tested today by a buddy of mine who is a wizz with anything electronic and its shot. i also checked the timing and its spot on the valve clearances are good. i bought the bike and it didnt run at all i put new rings cam chain valves seals and the whole nine yards in the top end. i lapped the new valves and all that. also put a better kicker gear in it and a good 4th and 3rd gear so i have been threw the whole engine. so im hoping i find a good cdi and the thing runs. i will also check pulse generator DirtCrasher i think i have it lined up right with the fire mark
