I'm changing the tranny fluid in my Tecate. The fill plug is solid rubber. The handle just tore off. The rubber plug is flush with the top of the crankcase. Anybody got any ideas on how to get it out?
Help! Going to the dunes in the morning, and need to get this out.

The problem is that it is threaded and tight. I'm thinking we are going to tip it back, plug the rear breather hole and fill it through the drain plug.

Maybe zip two small screws in it and use a pair of pliers to twist it off?

maybe try to make a slice in it with a utility knife, then jamb a big flathead screwdriver in the plug and turn it.

Those are made out of a pretty soft rubber. Unless...... It's extremely old and brittle. Regardless, you can drill a small pilot hole and thread a coarse bolt into it. It should lay back the soft threads when drawing it straight out. Use smooth pressure and it will come out. Then replace it with a billet one.

Thanks Ed, I'll try that. Haven't you guys left yet? Did you decide to sit this one out?

I'm with aldo, I would either do that, or be fancy and do it like a TORX.

Dcreel we had to sit this one out.....bummer! All of us guys had a lot going on at the same time with our trikes and new equipment. We simply ran out of time. However on a positive note we are already planning for Glamis next March 2011. There will be nothing that will hold us back for that one! Have fun and be safe.....make Team Tecate proud!

That sucks.. but I don't know it's supposed to rain anyways.. The photographer from Sand Sports is supposed to be there next weekend to take pictures of 3 wheelers so who knows. The family and I definitely plan on making the Glamis trip for sure. It's been 20 years since I have been to Glamis.

Just wanted to pass along that board member sblt500r makes a very NICE replacement for the Tecates.
The rubber O.E.M. originals can't even compare to Shawns.
