View Full Version : Who does reliable cylinder boring? And liquid cooled head swap on air cooled R?

I am probably going to just buy a new piston after boring my cylinder, that way I can know 100% which piston I need.

Does anyone know a good reliable place that can do this?

Also, can I put a liquid cooled 250R head on an air cooled engine?

you can't put a liquid cooled head on an air cooled motor because it will overheat from no liquid going through it.

Where would the liquid normally come from? Couldn't I add the radiator unit?

there was a kit sold years ago to make air foolers liquid R's, you'd be better to get a liquid motor and do that then start swaping out parts they are going to need way to much to even try and work and wont in the end.

You need a water pump that the Air Cooled R does not have.

Maybe an electric unit? Still risky.

I found a guy with a stock top end locally off an 85-86 R. Wouldn't the only difference in the motor be the top end + radiator and water pump?

water pump is located on the bottom end of the motors

An air cooled cylinder and head work just fine as is, especially here in new england where it rarely gets over 100 degrees. Run what you have and dont go mix-matching things around. If you need a bore-guy, there is a guy I bring ALL my cylinders to in Ware Ma, good service, and good prices (under 60 bucks) If you need more info, let me know. Also, never buy a piston until the bore-guy roughs out the cylinder so you know for sure what to get.
