I have a 1984 YTM225DX. I have cleaned and taken the carb apart multiple times. Here is my problem.
-It will start first pull with the choke off. It will idle nice for about 10 seconds, then hesitate (like its not getting fuel) but go back to idle, then hesitate and then idle, and then stall.
-I then pull the choke up all the way and the rpm's will go way up (about 3000+rpm) so I turn out the idle screw with the choke still on and get the rpms to about 1500-1800rpm.
-The idle will then start to get lumpy (because its running rich with the choke on) so I turn off the choke and the rpms will jump again to about 3000rpm and then it will stall with the choke off.
-Running with the choke half on will cause the trike to stall.
I then can run the trike with the choke off, but I have to turn in the idle screw almost all the way to get it to idle with the choke off, but it will idle/hesitate/idle/hesitate. With the idle turned up so much, the rpms will hang (give throttle to 3000rpm and let off, the rpms will be slow to return to idle)
There is a brand new fuel petcock with good fuel flow. Clean tank, clean gas, clean carb.
The ONLY thing I have not adjusted is the float level, only because the carb was never touched before I took it apart...there-for it should not be out of adjustment I would assume. Perhaps I'm wrong...? (I hate adjusting floats as its a PITA to do)
Any advice would be appreciated. I really don't want to shell out $300 for a new carb, but this might be my only other option.
Thanks,
