87 kx250 motor in a 86 tecate?

Does the 87 KX250 motor bolt right into the 86 tecate i know theres a huge thread on this but i cant find it i need to get my tecate back together ad i found a 88 kx last week and an 87 this week i know 88 doesn't but im not sure about 87

I think you have been reading my mind. On of my neighbours has an 87 KX sitting in his shed rotting away. My Tecate donk is about to be put into the shop for a long overdue birthday. 87 KX motor would be a nice substitute for a while.

I was under the impression that all KX motor from 85 to 94 would bolt right into an 86/87 KXT frame without too many dramas?

Have not seen any info on this swap.

In my opinion the changes (motor and frame,ect) on the KX250 were not very radical until 1990.

I suspect the 87-89 KX250 would fit into the 1986- Tecate without much hassle also. But I will not say it is a direct bolt in because I have never tried it.

I know ive been told on here many times a 86 motor is identical and a 85 will fit but all i ever see for sale is 87 88 around here just my luck lol might have to jump on a cheap one and try it
