View Full Version : Shorten exhaust header do anything bad?

On my 200x the aftermarket exhaust system sticks too far out the back. If I do a wheelie, it will drag. Would it affect performance if I shortened the small diameter header tube by 1.5" then relocate the muffler part further forward? That would tuck the exhaust system in better beneath the trike and not have it stick out so much. It looks like it was one of those exhaust systems they sell on ebay, aftermarket. The muffler part slips onto the pipe part. I can always weld a new tab on the muffler to move it more forward after I shorten the pipe a little.

I'm not an expert on that kind of stuff but it shouldn't affect it. there will be enough pipe for back pressure so i don't see it affecting anything..

the silencer will give you more then enough back pressure if you shorten the pipe

Whack it off.... (the exhaust that is)

I know the high performance science says shorter, smaller diameter headers work better for high rpms, but on my low performance engine, I just don't want to screw up what performance there is. I'm not sure why this pipe sticks out so far in the back, but I don't like it. Another other pic's I've seen of 200x's from the side view dont have the silencer portion stick out so far.

Cut it down... 1.5 inches wont change anything... (only to a woman)
