i got me an R. now i just need ya'll to tell me just exactly what i got. i havent even mastered the 350x and now i gotta learn all about the 2strokes. so any tips, knowledge info ect.., will be very greatly appreciated. here are some bullet style facts and sorry about the pics. nightime with cameraphone
paid $900
was listed for $1500 as an 82'
guy i bought it from had bought it from his good family friend for $3000
it's a total drag bike
bored to .310
jetted
extended swinger
starts right up
got a bunch of extra parts- top and bottom end motor, sprockets, 2 sets tires rims,carb,jets,rotors, swingers ect..
the bike was 1st in the points race when it was sold to the guy i bought it from.
split radiator with a cap on top (water-cooled?)
ate raptors and banshees for dinner, repeatedly beat a quad called a 700 somethin. i forgot, but when he saw me lookin like i didnt know what bike he was talkin bout he said" the race version,not the utility version" i just said oh, ok

the pics def make it look pretty bad. the plastics faded as they look in these pics. and the frame is really really nice
good steal for a 85 big bore 250R!!! with extra parts!!

Looks real nice.... rear rims look like Big Red rims with lawn tractor tires? Lots of extra goodies, looks like you did real good!

yeah those tires are completely bald and coming off tomorrow. i figure i'll put the stryker tires i got on my 350x and the little dunlops on the R.
hey anybody that reads this i have an emergency question. is it ok if there is a little play in the front sprocket? and by play i mean in and out . the bolts are tight so i guess its not the sprocket but the gear shaft coming from the case

It's normal for the countershaft to have some slight play. Approximately how much play do you have?
Nice score BTW! Smokin deal! I bet it rides real rough with that solid strut in place of the shock.

i'd say about 1/8 inch of play. and i think im gonna put the shock back on the R
i have a ride planned for tomorrow and i know im takin the BR and 350x. i wanna take the R, but at the same time i feel like i need a day or 2 to go through it. especially since this is my first 2stroke. i wish one of you guys could hook me up with a manual and a small checklist

I dont think you would need to check much other than the basics, the bike looks to be in very good condition. Lots of nice parts too! good score :D

I had that same silencer on my Lt 250 when I raced, worked real well. But that is just a normal aftermarket 2 stroke silencer and is nothing like a 4 stroke silencer.

i worked on stuff real late last night and got up early today. made a bunch of changes to the R and have been going through everything. its crazy, but everything is checking out. gonna post pics in just a few

thanks! i wont be buying another one for a while but theres plenty of parts for these on my wish list. slowly but surely i'll get the R exactly how i want it. the 350X got a good tuning today . i got the decompression cable adjusted right and its not so hard to start now and idles better.

i assume you mean zero suspension on the rear, if so yes. its a rough ride but i have the complete shock. i just dont know if i can use it on the extended swinger yet. it looks like it'll reach, but i dont know if it will be functional. if i cant use it i'll have to build up one of the swingers that came with it

sorry yes i ride choppers and sport bikes my whole life so its hard tailed to us thats gotta be one hard ride

i put the dunlops back on the 350x after a short ride today. so that meant those strykers had to go on the R but i mounted them on the sweet chrome douglas rims that the sand tires were on. now what i have left is a set of decent BR rims and the 3set of sand tires. anyway this is how it sits. its growing on me alot. im going to the coast for work again and were gonna hit up the beach with the collection.
edit- i havent washed this thing yet cause my hands have been on it since saturday when i got it. its filthy including the rims and tires
