Well I was at an auction a couple of weeks ago and picked up a 78' atc 90. The "word" at the auction was that an old man owned it and died last year and it had sat since and now "didn't run". I paid a whoppin $60 for it. Actually at the auction it was up on a wagon and had a 110 tank on it so i was a little surprised when i got it home to find the 90 info stamped on it. Well after alot of searching I found this site and started reading a bunch of the threads here. I also dumped the old gas, cleaned the NASTY carb and put new inline fuel filters on it. the little guy started right up but would only run on half choke.

I next ordered and installed my first ever carb kit (boy was i nervous when the honda shop handed me that sack with all those itty-bitty parts in it):wondering. I tore everything down again on the carb and soaked in gas and then used almost a full "shop sized" can of carb clean and a tooth brush to clean it a second time. I now have it back together and from further reading here on the site it looked like i had better check the air filter. WELLLLLLL I just pulled it out and the old foam filter is not in good condition at all! I ran my finger down it and the filter made little balls from the filter as i did it. I next pulled it off the metal and it pretty much crumbled and ripped apart in several spots.

My first question after looking at ebay is, is it better to get an original type oil soaked filter or one of the dry type like this one.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/45-AIR-FILTER-CT-ATC-CRF-XR-XL-70-90-110-125-PIT-BIKE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem588480dd19QQitemZ3 80180159769QQ
any suggestions would be great! And i'm gonna be asking for ALOT more help (AKA pointers) as I move along with this little "project". I would also like to thank whoever it was that put the shop manual on here!! Its sad to say but I sat in my basement with the computerized shop manual up on my puter following it as I put my carb kit in!! thank god for technology and all of you helpful fellas here at 3wheelerworld!:beer:w00t::w00t:

ATC, the smallest they list is for a 110. Any ideas if that would fit on a 90 carb?

o snap, well try to find anything foam,i have had very poor luck with K&N and paper based filters and stuff like that. foam will always get you home. but if not then anything you can find is better than nothing. dont be afraid to try a custom set up

i noticed that the bottom back of my gas tank is damp. I'm guessing that it has some pin holes in it. I read on here somewhere and can't find the thread again that there is something that you can spray in to remove rust/plug pin holes. Can anyone tell me what it is and how to use it or how it works. Also it looks like theres lots of suggestions about doing a tune up. Looking at parts on ebay I see some sell just the points and others sell points/condenser as a set. Is the condenser needed or is it mostly just the points that "go bad"? Thanks for the help and I'm ordering the air filter today.

thanks RPM, man my wife is gonna kill me if the big brown truck pulls up in front of my house to many more times due to the new trike. ohh well, I guess its better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. The honda dealer can still get foam filters ( i dont know where from cause i've scoured the net) for 12 bucks. gotta like that!

anyone know where I can obtain item #3 in this schematic for an atc 90. I can't seem to find them on the net anywhere and are discontinued directly from honda. anyone happen to have a 90 they are parting out and would sell one off of?

Let me find it in my garage. I have a complete air box in great shape last time I looked. Will be down there later this evening.

86 thanks for the parts. i finally got some time and they are going on today. I've tried to find the service manual on here but since they changed the site up i cant find it through the search options. would someone be willing to throw up the link for the atc 90 service manual. That little tool has been invaluable when i was rebuilding the carbs and I would sure like to be able to refer back to it for some more rapairs. thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction! More questions to come soon I'm sure as i get back into getting the little project completed.

Ill try to get some up in the next few days. It certainly wont win any beauty contests but it will get me to my bow hunting trail cams which is why I got it. Thanks 350xer for the point in the right direction and to everyone else who has helped out a "new guy" in this forum. I certainly appreciate it.
