Over the weekend my brother got out his 81 R and told me to give it a try. I'm not going to lie, stalled it once. After riding my SX I thought, "It's about the same bore size, how powerful could it be?" Well, that thing is crazy, not only a wheelie monster but that thing's got BALLS. Second gear it almost got away from me, as soon as I filled the pipes though it was pretty awesome. Definitely need to get our 83 R put together.

The R's are just plain awesome. They do enjoy being ridden fast. I had mine at St. Joes this past weekend and it took a 2010 honda 700 4-wheeler to beat it against a radar gun. 25 years of technology and a $10,000 machine only ran 3 mph faster than my R. I was at 64 mph in the sand. You gotta get you one, any year it might be.

lol, you think an 81 is fast...try a liquid cooled 85 or 86...40% more horsepower

I rode a liquid R for the first time last summer. I was in flip flops with no helmet plus my wife was watching (she hates trikes) so I didn't really get on it too hard but I could definately tell it had tons of power.

I was on my buddies 85R about 6 months ago. He lives in town so I blocked off one end of the street with my Ford, fired it up. Started off, took it slow, 1st, 2nd, 3rd I just hit it and kept a wheelie for about 100 feet. those really like 3rd gear. not as fast as my old R though.
A 350X is like a torquey stunt bike, if you get a good enough wheelie, it will go vertical and use the rear grab bar as a stand. I had to drop kick the seat to get it down lol.
as far as HP for an aircooled R, what are good mods for them if any other than a big bore?
