Talk about bringing back memories(and indigestion)! Hard to believe that was the same year I got a new '86 Tri-Z and met my first wife.

The producers of 60-Minutes knew what they were doing by parading dead and maimed children in order to push their agenda/viewpoint, but anyone with half the sense God gave a load of gravel should have seen through the spin. Funny how they also showed a few quads having problems, but didn't touch on them specifically all that much. Using a 1% plane crash analogy is a joke, who's trying to ban cars and trucks because so many people die in auto crashes.

Thinking on how much the industry, the machines, the prices, and the atmosphere of wheeling has changed makes me sick......not to mention how the foundational designs of the ATV industry are not welcome to participate in many ATV parks and organized events. Not to be putting people in age brackets, but you younger members really don't know what you missed if you came of riding age after the ban. Wish I could have bottled it up to share with you. Not that riding afterwards and now isn't great, but it was just different when you couldn't drive 3 miles without seeing 3-wheelers at houses, or on almost every trail on any given day.

And almost no deeply rutted two-track quad trails....man that was beautiful.

Sweet I have been wanting to see this since I got interested in trikes. I like how they only show the risk takers, kids and drunks riding the trikes lol. They were the most likely to crash.

I like the 2 guys riding one handed with a beer in the other. This is what I call, safety at its best.

that guy in the first video makes me so mad. You cant fix stupid. I am really sorry he was killed but it wasnt the 3 wheelers fault. Man it makes me so mad that the kids dad "taught" him to ride and when something goes wrong suddenly its the atc's fault. Whos to say that the dad was a professional teacher. that vid just made me mad, that black reporter has probably never set foot out of the ghetto let alone onto an atc. the rider is driving a vehicle with no roll cage and most not even wearing helmets so yes some situation may cause death or injury. i have watched four wheelers crush people dirt bikes throw people when you sit on one of these you have to realize its a risk

They talk about the number % of people injured or killed. Which one is it? Injured could mean just about anything. Anyone care to speculate on the percentage of riders of bicycles injured or killed? I'd say 99.9%. Doubt I know a single person that wasn't "injured" on a bicycle, so that puts injured or killed up to near 100%

We know the press likes to sensationalize these things. Remember back in the 90's, when NBC FAKED a GM truck exploding in a collision video? They actually planted explosives to "prove" that the truck would explode in a collision. It's not a good story unless it's REALLY BAD! So the press spins it as bad as they can. If they interview someone who says "I don't think they're dangerous", it doesn't get aired.

Watch the demonstration video in the first one, where the rider "proves" how they flip over. It wasn't faked, but it was clearly setup to make the flip happen. Jumping a utility trike is not recommended anyway.

I think this country's propensity for suing everyone for everything is ridiculous, but watch those commercials again and tell me what you see. I saw regular people with minimal safety gear jumping 3-wheelers! I don't think that was a particularly good thing to be putting into the commercials. That was just asking for trouble.

I am kinda ashamed to say it but i have zero sympathy for any of these people. I understand that when you lose someone special to you especially a kid you want to blame something else besides them. I don't car if its a car, truck, streetbike, motorcycle, 4 wheeler, 3wheeler, go-cart etc. The machine is not alive. You are the one controlling it. If there is a mechanical malfunction that is one thing but machines don't just come alive and kill people. All of these people WERE smart enough to know that a machine has a motor. Motorcycles have been around since the 1800's. They are capable of speeds and there is always an assoicated risk when saddling someting with a motor. This is a risk THEY chose to take. Noone can tell me that these people were stupid enough to think that the 3 wheelers were some toy that had glue on the tires and had no risk when riding. I mean how many people die in cars EVERY DAY. They still sell them. 3 wheelers became the scapegoat of the motorcycle world. I have a 5 year old son, he rides a TRI-Zinger 60. I have taught him the ins and outs of safety and how to be in the best possible control of the bike. I fully understanfd that his life can be at risk on that bike or any. I still allow him to ride. I trust his judgement even at 5 years old. Still, if something should happen GOD FORBID, I can only blame myself. I do intend to get him a 4 wheeler, not because i think he is any safer but because he has more choices later on down the road. I do however know that when he gets on a quad he will have greatly benifited from learning to ride on 3 wheels and he will have an advantage over other kids that have never ridden one.

you know grew up riding the tr 200 fatcat and the atc 200 s. both my dad and my grandfather owned them. and i knew from day one that if youre not careful that you could tip the atc over. its common knowledge that 3 wheels are as stable as 2 or 4. but if you're going to get on the thing and ride it then you should know that no matter what it is, be it a quad, a bike or a 3 wheeler, it can hurt or kill you. i mean come on how many times have people been injured during a motocross race? and that guy looked like he had the word stupid plastered on his forehead. i used to ride the three wheeler around in circles just to get it up on 2 wheels and i knew what would happen if i messed up and wrecked. it only takes one to ruin it for the rest of us. i heard that if you sell a 3 wheeler that you have to have the recipient go with you to a notary and sign a paper that says that you are not responsible for any injury that occurs while the buyer is riding on it. and i think that's a load of b/s.

so does that mean if you sell someone a 3 wheeler and dont sign a paper at a notary then 5 years later if they get severely injured or die then them/family can comeback and clean you out?

i think if someone buys something then its their responsibility to inspect the atv or hazerdouse vehicle and make sure the vehicle is in safe condition.
once it leaves the sellers possesion then he should not be responsible for any accidents after he sells it.

Of course his son was wearing TWO helmets, had a 12 point roll cage, and was riding at idle in first gear on level terrain when it VIOLENTLY flipped for no reason. That first video was especially a crock of bull,listen to Alan Isely of the ATV industry on part one at 8:00 near the end of the video, he talks about how most all of the injuries were cause by rider mis-use, alcohol,public roads,etc and then listen to the woman with the CPSC, she totally denies it! She litterally lied through her teeth saying"that was not the case" the data she has does not support that conclusion..LMAO infact it does support that conclusion. It's in the reports,, You can tell she was just a B ,, 60 MINUTES made the ATC look 100 times more dangerous than it really was. They are no where near that dangerous, what a bunch of %&^$$#
