recent post have made me think of all the trikes i got to ride brand new with no mods yet. these trikes all belonged to friends or riding buddies, some names i can't think of off hand. none of these machines was more then a month old before i rode them. i did not include all the other trikes that were modified or a couple of years old. i also included my own trikes. i'm also sure i forgot a few and will edit if they come to mind. what trikes have others out there had a chance to ride brand new???

I bought the following new: :-D 1983 Big Red, 1984 Big Red, 1984 200S, and a 1985 200S. Of course I rode them ! Don't ask me why I didn't buy a new 200X, or 350X. I'm kicking myself for not doing so  . At least I've had the priveledge of buying new 3 wheeler's. :bounce I'm sooooo glad I found my 2-200X's that are near new condition 3 year's ago. :clap

First was the 1978 ATC90 that I received for Christmas when I was 10. Then there was the 1985 200X that I got for my 16th Birthday. Both were brand new when I got them. I did not own anything in between them. Oh what a difference between the 90 and the 200X back in the days. I also got to ride brand new bikes from friends and relatives as follows.

1982 185S
1984 Big Red
198? 200 Yami.
1985 Tecate

No they never made trikes in 88. 87 was the last year which they never even made a 87 350x,87 250r. I have seen ads of them but never them. But all other 87s are around a lot :D

I think most people would find that 87 model years of any model are pretty rare.

Not where I live. There are a lot of 87s. I'm thinking about buying a local 87 200x. But I dont know yet what do you guys think. Its in almost perfect condition.

What do we think?? Who cares - an 87 of anything is the newest you can get, so get it if it's restorable and affordable!
About 10% of the used parts available out there are from 87's.

My dad and his buddies bought the ATC 90 when they first came out. Then he got a 110 when they came out just to out do his other hunting buddies. Then he got the all mighty for it,s time ATC 185S. All of which I would ride as a kid. Then I got the brand new 1985 ATC 250SX under the Christmas Tree. Then dad got himself a 1986 ATC 250Es Big Red for our hunting lease. The best ride was probably my riding buddy John Frohring who raced ATC,s He raced a ATC 200R ATC 250R then he Got a Cagiva 200. His dad would not let him (joy ride it). It was for racing only ,(but he would sneak it out after school before his dad got home). I rode it but after getting off my 250SX that Cagiva scared me. My friend Brian had a 350X that would blow my 250SX away as well as johns 250R. I thought the 350X was the baddest thing on earth, But know that I own a 250R I realize that his 250R was geared for the track and that is why a 350X had more top end. My cousin also got a new 200S under the Christmas Tree in 1985. I have never rode a Tri-Z or Tecate.......YET

Awesome pics Tom!! I can't believe you still have the same trike since you were a kid. I think we are about the same age since in 85 I was 13!

I love the look of that clean 350X. There is something about the way that new Honda plastic looked back then....just beautiful.

Well I don't have any new pics of my bikes from the 1980's..only an ATC 200s...but its nothing to exciting.

Well this recent pic of my Tri Z looks like it could have come off the showroom:

Thats not the same 350x. I belive he sold that one 2 years after he got it to buy a car. He picked up his new one off ebay and restored it right? :D

Nice Trike, warms the heart.

Yes it does warm the heart to see those old 80's pics and the new 350X. There is just some sort of majic in those pictures....gotta love it.

I even had a similar haircut...but man he sure got a better trike...I only had an ATC 200s...was shooting for the 200X but the folks would not have it!

Oh well!

Having been born in '84 I was deprived of riding most of the trikes when they were new, there is one trike I got to ride when it was new though.... TPC 450R.

I always got hand-me-downs in those days, but I did ride a new Big Red that my uncle had. Not to get too sentimental, but 1980-1987 were some great years to be an ATV enthusiast and some great memories personally. Sigh

Nice Bump.

Gotta love the vintage pics of the 3Fiddy.

In 1984 I bought a new Tri-Moto 125 with funds from my paper route. Funny thing is my Mom wouldnt let me buy the cr80 I wanted because "its too dangerous you can get a three wheeeler instead".

I have said this before in other posts, but I had a brand new 85 Big Red in 1985. My dad had it sitting in the yard after I got home from school in the 5th grade. Best damned day ever!! I can almost smell it....and I hear it again every Friday morning when I go for a ride lol. Well....it's not the SAME one...but it might as well be! 189956

Just saw this post. Had to think about it for a bit. I think this is the order of the new trikes I lucked into riding back in the day.

1981 Honda 250R – Henry B.
1982 Yamaha 175 – Barry O.
1983 Yamaha 200 – Dale D. (mine now)
1984 Honda 250R – Vern H. (R.I.P.)
1984 Honda Big Red – Randy L.

You got a brand new Big Red 250ES when you were 10! No fair! Ha ha. Were you surprised he didn't just buy you a 125 or maybe a 200? How was it to ride such a large machine at that age.

So beautiful. The guys (like me) on here that have really minty trikes really remember the suprise or joy of guess of that new trike, the smell, the look, the feel... so I totally identify with this what OKSTATE#1 is say here...rock on brother! Incredible Big Red!

I will have to say I was scared to DEATH at first lol. It was a big damn machine to me back then, but I had the brochures all laid out in my bedroom and had a copy a magazine back then with a big red review in it. Dad was always so cool when it came to wheels...bought a brand new 1983 Honda XL 80 just before the big red, then he surprised the crap out of me with the big red! I was a lucky little spoiled brat lol. But, we lived in the country here in Oklahoma and I didn't have too many friends close by, so that was the way I got to play and go see friends. Guess he thought I was safer on 3 wheels instead of 2 lol. He actually used the big red himself though, and we would ride together sometimes with me on the 80 and he on the BR. It snowed really deep one winter, and I helped some people get out of the area by hitching their car to the big red and half way pulling them around the section line. Yeah, a twelve year old out in 7 inches of snow pulling cars with a big red lol. I of course wasn't PULLING the car so much as I was just guiding them through the snow on the road, and it was a little Honda accord or some such. 28 years later, I still like to go help people in the snow, but I used my jeep Rubicon now...

It's funny, I think about my stepson at 15, he doesn't do any of the things I did at that age. I was riding three wheelers, hunting with a shotgun, fishing, and doing just about anything outdoors and then some. It's not for lack of trying, most of these kids are so wrapped in video games they can't fathom getting out and getting their hands dirty....but that's another topic altogether and I have went on long enough....

I got to ride a brand new 1986 ATC 200S. I can still remember the smell of that trike when we ran it for the first time.
