So far i am in negotiations with a fellow who wants to sell me a 86 250 Tri-Z, he tells me the engine is in great shape recently rebuilt very strong bike mechanically. But plastics are shot, needs handle bars, and new rubber. I am most likely getting some pics tonight from the guy. He wants 400 firm for it. The reason i am asking is because i have Never owned a yamaha trike only honda's, many honda's. Anyways all i know through reading is that the 86 is a 6speed and has white plastics? Anyways if anyone has input about these tri-zs weather this would be worth it or can i find a bunch of aftermarket goodies for it?

for the prices that bikes go for up north it could be a great deal if the motor was rebuilt. It looks like a good start for a project

If it starts and runs well I'd be all over it.

Check the usual stuff and see if it starts. If it does, go for it. GET IT...QUICK.
Z's are great bikes.

yeah, you got a good starter there. I would ask if the waterpump seal was replaced when motor was redone(if not do it). Plastics are no sweat but that rear shock is gonna be expensive. Sure you could go Warrior or test the used market???? I recomend a custom Axis for $850 and never look back. You'll have some $ rapped up but that could be quite the machine...If your looking for a quick flip...it's worth the $400 in parts to some of the other sellers on this site, that consider the 86' 6speed and triples/working forks gold.

400 bucks is a steal, I don't see them go for less then 600 bucks for non-runners out here.

I took the top end off the bike thought i might clean it up a bit while i was going over the bike. when i took the cylinder off i found there is alot of play in the connecting rod moving side to side. The bearings looks to be fine im just not sure weather it should be moving like that.

Lateral is fine. Any vertical is extremely bad and crank need to be rebuilt asap.....
