So we went out and played in some mud and trails on sat. My atc ran good and never have had any clutch/transmission issues before. Well after about an hour of trail ridding threw mud and water it just slowly stopped and would not move. The motor runs but none of the gears work. If you go to shift it shifts into gear good but doesn't move the sprocket. I thought maybe it needed to cool down so I started it today and the same problem. During the hour ride there were no shifting problems at all, then I went into some deep mud/water and just inched my way out then nothing. Does anybody know what could be wrong?? Clutch??

Its a 1986 honda 200s

Brake shoes probably feel apart and locked up in the drum . Their only held on with glue and the water and mud is no good for them .

if the front sprocket spins with your chain off, you have found your problem ^^

if your engine revs while its in gear then it probably has nothing to do with the water, its just a coincidence. its more than likely in your change clutch. I have seen change clutches get stuck open on brand new Hondas with 0 hours on them.

Curtis May be right, I've seen this happen to more than enough of 200's. Espeically when being driven hard and in mud

It does roll front and back with the chain on. It does rev up in gear with no forward movement. It seems to shift good with no unusual noises or clunks. It just doesn't move. When you have it in neutral and shift it to 1st it does feel and look like its engaging but no movement. Thanks guys

its not a big or super hard job to take apart and replace one of the clutches. you can even find one on ebay cheap no a days. i just replaced the shift shaft on my 200s and to do so had to take both clutches out. pick up a service manual if someone doesnt have one on here they posted and it will take you step by step how to do it. you will need some crazy tools for it however. you are going to need a 30mm socket and also a 24mm spanner socket. you can get both of these online unless you can track them down somewhere. after that your golden just follow the book and you will be fine.
