Been thinking of running some 30 inch mudlites all the way around. I figure the best way will be to raise the fenders, seat , gas tank and side covers ect. up to make clearance. Have not really studied what all I have to raise but that is the basic idea. And now that I have it tuned up I feel that I can turn the 30 mudlites.

Anyone ever seen this done?

this will ruin the handling and performance of your machine. also your going to need to gear down by getting a smaller front sprocket or bigger rear sprocket. the gearing will be so high you wont be able to pull top gear, even with light weight tires let alone these huge nasty mudders. it will be cool and stuff but i dont think you will like it, bigger is not always better

Isnt this on a shaft machine?

oh yah even a better reason not to use that size tire. you wont be able to change to the gearing

Turning the treads is not an issue. I can light up the the 27 inch zilla's i have on there now. They clean out without issue in the thick mud. (remember I am running a webcam, overbore high comp piston, and an exhuast with a 350x carb) this is not a stock powered 250es.

I got the idead from a couple of guys over on High Lifter forum, who run 30's on their 300 4x4's. I know those machines are heavier and have to turn 2 more tires. they have almost identical running gear to the 250es as far as strength. It is common fot them to swap in a 250es rear axle.

With my power output and light weight of the machine and tires I am getting not worried about turning them.

As far as stability I have increased the track width 3 inches with the 27's. Handling with that setup is fantastic. I am going to increase the width again 5 inches with the 30's which should maintain the handling characteristics.

It will be done, I was just wondering if anyone else has seen it done thats all.

If I am not happy with it, I can always put back on the 27's

30's on stock gearing what kinda top speed are you getting at?

SYKO
03-14-2010, 12:18 PM
yea im interested in this! after all my insane machines are done im going to do a 250es I miss the one I had. Im thinking the 30s will be wicked awesome!

oh has anyone ever thought about extending the swinger and driveshaft? I know it can be done, that MR death kfx700 did it to his and its supercharged and all so a extened driveshaft on a 250es shouldn't be that hard. Thats what are my thoughts when I do mine is to extend the swinger and driveshaft so it can be raised up higher to clear larger tires like 30s, I mean the front is a no brainer by extending the forks, my 2c has been added.

The lift I am getting at is not a typical supension lift. That is what i ahave on there now. I want to keep the wheelbase short, remember I use this rig for hunting so turning radius is important.

I am doing a sort of bodylift where the suspension is left alone and clearance is made by lifting the fenders seat side covers ect.

Top speed on the aspault with the 27's was 61 gps. Remember bigger tires make it act as though is has higher gears.

it will be geared so high (like 68-70MPH if 27s put out 61) keep us posted on how that works out for ya, so much for the low pulling gear the BR has =P

You can probably just drive around in low range all the time! LOL!

I like to know how the rearend will hold up... Ive seen the trx300 rear ends strip out in no time with 30" tires.

With all the work you done to the motor how much power did you get out of it and money wise is it worth it?

30 silverbacks are on the way! I am in the process of working with a gentleman to make a clutch kit that will have the clutch engage at higher rpm where the power begins rather than low rpm of the factory clutch. When all this comes together I think we will show the world that 3 wheelers still rule! In the drags we have the 250r. In the swamp we have the 250 Big Red. Hell ya!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man.... I am anxious to hear how it does with the silverbacks... Thats a serious tire commitment...

skiffy

Yea I know it is a seriously heavy tire too. I think my saving grace is going to be the clutch kit and the engine mods. we will know soon enough!

Dont let your handle bars rail your tank....

skiffy
03-28-2010, 08:23 PM
The mock up is only for the rear. I will, of course, raise the handlebars as well. And yes I have to extend the front forks more to the fit the 29.5 swamplite that is going on the front.

This is a minor project as I have fabricated and installed air ride suspensions for Ford superdutys and jeeps. I used to build semi milk transport trailers for a living so fab work comes easy. It just come with my old career :)

brakes, hahahahaha thats funny

skiffy
03-28-2010, 11:24 PM
I am building it to be unstopable remember? Ha ha!

In all honesty I am planning on adding a disc brake.

Was thinking of putting he disc brake on the front but modexbrute had a good point on saying that when you have he front tire in the air I ain't going to do you any good. So a rear disc brake will be in the disant future.

Freaking Honda drum brakes never last on any atv they produced. At least they never last in he mud.

if you arent making it through the holes with those zillas then i think its time for a 4x4 quad

air ride suspensions are ok on jeeps if the person is towing a lot... this guy in our jeep club has it on his 4 door rubi.. its nice he can change the height but it limits it flex a lot.

Ok so I have the bike apart and am in the process of raising all the mounts for the tank, seat and rear fenders. Should have all of that done tomorrow. I am loving the idea of sitting up higher, more out of the water.

I am going to lift it 4 inches.

The wrap is holding up fine, For reson it bubles on my plastic tank, I just pop the buble and re-stick it. I used the non permanent because it was thicker and thus mor durable.

I will get pics of the build by tomorrow night.

The 400ex carb is on the way too. We will se how that works out.
