it still works but its in pretty bad shape. i'm gonna start off by changing the oil and spark plug. What type of oil does it use. Oh and I have no idea what year my atc is. Can anyone help me out.

If its been really abused I like to run cheap oil the first few changes and change it every couple days of riding. Then switch to the Valvoline ATV. Get a new spark plug boot while your at it.
Oh and your gonna love trikes, I got my first this fall and am hooked. Post a pic if you can.

its an 83. it has the shocks and it says on a sticker on the frame. but i just changed the oil and i got two quarts out of it. it doesnt seem like that engine should have that much in it. did the previous owner put too much in or is this right?

I'd suggest checking the VIN. 185s was made from '81-83 I believe. Only the 83 model had front suspension. However the front forks could be off an 83 185s or off a 200s.
Congrats on the trike and welcome to the forum.

It takes one quart and a quater of one. there should be a dipstick on the oil cap.
