I wanted to check my valve clearance on my 84 200x. I have a manual for instructions. When I tried to turn it with a screwdriver the slot on the crankshaft cap is starting to chip away. I sprayed some pb blaster and tried again later. Same thing. Any suggestions on removing this? I thought about using an impact driver but am leary because of the aluminum.

Get something that fits the slot as tight as possible....for example maybe a large washer (with a pair of vice-grips for extra turning power and extra pushing power(to make it stay in the slot)). The main thing would be that whatever it is....it fits the slot tight enough that it will resist slipping when you crank on it. I think I used a quarter once, but I really don't remember.

Mine was stuck and the slot was stripped out. For anybody else that can't get theirs, I used a dremel cut off wheel to make a really deep slot just big enough for a large screwdriver and used vice grips on it. Then I replaced the cap with one that loosens with an allen wrench from a 300ex/400ex.
