86 tecate larger carb and airbox

whats the largest carb that will fit with the stock airbox?

i have a 36mm pwk keihin and its a pain to get in the carb to airbox boot. i just don't want to rip the boot as there disscontinued. the fuel inlet is also pretty close to the box, but i fixed that.

i've read about 39 pwks on these but are they running the stock airbox?

Shawn...Have access to a lathe? Turn down the spigot & bell...it'll make life much easier.

I use a pwk 39 in my tecate. boil in hot water the airbox boot or heat it with an hairdryer.

here is one foto. its with the old carb boot now i use one new reproduction.

Still haven't found the best jetting for this carb but it runs better than the stock in all range of power.

i did get it on, but is a pain.

roger, i didn't even think of turning the carb down. i do have a lathe. i bored out a 39mm for my kx250.

i just hope i have the jetting close. i don't want to have to pull half the bike apart to get at the idle adjustment!

i also had to indent the back of the airbox a bit to clear the fuel inlet.

why not run a straight air filter off the Carb ?

thats how i originally had it, but i want to have a little bit of waterproofing with the airbox. so i don't have to put threw all the puddles. also i made up a airbox cover i want to use.
