ok, so, I have had a 1985 atc110 for a while now and love it. Last summer I took a rock to the bottom of the engine and broke the cases bad. I recieved a 90cc motor from a 1978 parts bike. I rebuilt this engine lightly. New piston rings and carb. I know this is a 6volt motor instead of a 12volt motor so, I have also purchased a 90cc wiring harness and coil assembly off of ebay. My problem is - no spark. I have double checked my wiring over and over again and still nothing. One thing I figured out is that the coil itself needs to be mounted to be grounded. The only way that I could do this easily was to attach a wire to each mount points and then ground the wire. Does the coil absolutley have to be mounted to be grounded? Does this sound like the route of my problem?
Thanks in advance.

Just to check for spark I have just used a piece of wire to ground out the coil so I dont think that is your problem . Did you install new points ? Even if they look good that is the first thing to check .

well, the wiring is definatley right. I just double and triple checked it. The points are also good. I think I got a bad coil?? Is there anyway to check and see if the coil is good?

normally with coils you do a resistance test to check if its bad, find the spec on the coil then test its resistance with a nice multi meter

just search for specs on this site.
I got a FEW multimeters from harbor freight for 2.99 and they actually match up with my 200$ meter.
