I would leave the swinger bolt mounts in their present location, If you move those around your gonna open up a can of worms I think with the shock linkage-geometry. Try to modify the rear of the cradle to get that motor to sit in there correctly. Just my thoughts..

cant wait to see the finished product, but like jeffatc250r said, i wouldnt cut any bars out and replace them, just add a bar, i wouldnt see any need to remove the ones your thinking of removing.

when finished, if done right this thing will rip, i had a modded up 400ex that ate 450s and played with the big dogs all day, then chop off 100 pounds and a tire and u got your self a machine. i recommend Hotcam's stage 2 cam and a 12:1 piston for starters and that will wake up the 400, then depending on budget go from there.

It would be awesome if someone could fab up some custom aluminum oil tanks to go in place of the existing oil cooler and have another one on the opposite side. If that wouldn't work then I would suggest trying to mount the oil tank in the rear like how the 250r has its coolant reservoir. Just some food for thought.

if you need any 400EX engine tips let me know. there are some very week points to this engine that can be overcome and be an awesome engine but be very careful with high compression. this engine don't like it. i know 400 engines very good and seen many people throw big money away not understanding the week points. like MR RPM said. you can eat 450s for lunch if you build it right.

Are you going to let the front sprocket be that much higher then the swingarm piviot?
if so get ready to bust cases and throw chains ALL the time.

Has anyone accomplished this swap with the newer engines w/ reverse? I always thought it be neat to have a 350x with reverse. I've also wanted to swap a reverse capable engine into an older body style 400ex. Cause the only 400ex to have is the double headlight model. Not that 450r bodystyle knockoff. And the new ones (2009-2010) look like a YZF450 and a Z400 had a child and gave it to Honda, because it was so ugly.

These are the only pictures on this swap I could find. Any updates on this? Or has anyone else done this, or have any pictures? My cousin is wanting to give this a try. I'm looking for any useful information to pass on to him.
